This car only has different wheels, a de-tango and 3" scoobysport exhaust. Everything else standard. Chav mobile? I think not

My old MY99 UK Turbo was more modded that my new STi8, yet at work I have only just started to be called "pip" or "pusher" since having the STi!

The mods on the "classic" were mild - de-cat, colour coded, de-tangoed, meshing (to protect the radiator) but I felt it personalised the car and enhanced its appearance. Suppose it's each to their own. But I got what i felt was a fair trade-in on a competively priced STi.

So does it appear that Subaru themseles are perhaps "chaving" up their own cars?

And despite owning the newer "blobeye" I still think my "classic" looked better. I can perhaps even see myself having another classic later in life as a toy car if funds ever permit a toy.

Oh dear. The classic is well and truely dead then. Once the little muppets start bolting bits on, it can only be down hill for what was a good car.

I've got to throw in my two pence worth!!

To those peeps who *******ise there scoobies a la Halfords. I take my hat off to them. Kind of in our nature to modify things. Not my ball game though

Prefer that than people making their Sierra, Escort, Astra, Clio's look like a Subaru. Always hated the all show no go cars!! With a passion.
Having owned all manor of jap machinery from Mazda 323 Turbos right up to Evo's I've always made my purchase at a crucial time when the cost has been right. If that price bracket has now fallen into true Max power territory then I'll concentrate on performance first.

By the way heres my car. http://yars.fotopic.net/p23879225.html

Long live the classic. Its where it all started

I love my 'classic' it makes me smile everytime I drive it. And it's slightly mod'd.

MY 94 WRX with:

De-tango
Sti rear lights
Tein lowering springs
Rota Tarmac II's
Stainless exhaust (Magnex)
Some Momo goodies inside
Greddy boost controller
HKS turbo timer
Boost, oil temp + oil pressure gauges
Front alloy strut brace
Dump valve
Grooved discs and Pagid pads all round

And I dont fall into the charva category, I'm 30 FFS with a full time job and an abhorent disgust of cider and lambrini.

LONG LIVE THE CLASSIC IMPREZA

Oh I even wash my car occasionally, must go see stickymicky for a valet at some point.

The classic is a choice car not like the over weight lardy ( and ugly) bug eye, bleary thing and the latest Abomination rep run around thing new they may be but ...........

I think with the later generations you have to spend ££££££ to get close to the classic feel.

Classic all the way for me and if money was no object, by that I mean buying a brand new one id still go for a classic

Granted the interior is crap on classic but still is a better looking car imo.

MY2000 UK PPP
Sti6 Rear Spoiler
Sti6 Splitter
Sti Fog Covers
Burnsie/Reid Decals
Vortex Exhaust with decat centre
Bailey DV

Chav I think not: 27yrs age with 2 kids + Baby working for queen and country.
Car only comes out at weekends and when its needed, I do not drive around town at night treating the town as a race track nor do I sit in carparks with the boys and girls.

This thread is getting a bit boring now, at the end of the day it is all in the name. It's the classic, if you want a newer sequel, than it's all down to individual choice.

Also, I know the cruise/car park thing etc. is not everyones cup of tea, and neither is it mine, but if they enjoy getting together talking about their neon lights etc. then why slag them off?? I'm sure there are worse things the car park crews could be doing!

Let everyone make their own choices!!

Why? What a strange response to a valid post. I'm lost. Maybe you have brought a light weight(ish) powerfull car and stuck half a tonne of sound system in the boot and completely fooked the aero dynamics of it with odd looking bolt on Halfrauds sh!te.

Or do you not own a Subaru? Are you 12 years old?

I wasn't knocking XRs anyway...I used to own one!!!! Although I would gladly knock what some owners did to them.

I hate turbocharged cars...lag lag lag - whoosh. How people and journos alike have the audacity to call that a trait of a "drivers car"

Give the me throttle response and short gearing of an old XR anyday ...just not anything else

As per my earlier post, opinions are like arseholes.......Besides if you do not like turbos dont buy one simple. All said and done we all have different preferences that doesnt mean slagging off one thing simply because we dont like it. Although some people do like to play devils advocate, lets all enjoy the rich tapestry of life in its many varied forms.

Got a lot of time for that car mate.. Very tidy. I'll post some of mine up once i get it back on the road.. Along the same line looks wise apart from mines black and you got nicer wheels..

Classics will never die. I love mine and don't think it will ever come up for sale. I personally think it is by far the best looking impreza there is and most of the insults seem to be coming for the old men trying to relive their youth but not quite sucseeding.. It will always be a great car because it is what started it all off. The classic is a piece of history that is still capable of embarassing most other cars on the road.

I had a new sti that came up onto the back of my impreza and tried taunting me into a race on the way back down the a38 to Plymouth. I let him over take me and then proceeded to pass him with ease as he tried to keep up with mine (definatly not past it then). After the little blast i pulled into Sainsburys for fuel, the sti came in behind and after asking me what had been done to it stated " I love that shape impreza, they've never had as good a image since" I think that proves that even people with the later impreza's can respect the car that started it all and so the car will never die.

People are right, the classic will never die. Whilst the new are good, I think they lost a little of the scooby magic. I have an RB5 and love it to bits, still think they look best without any body modifications, they asre not ment to be boyracer cars.
You also get more waves from classic drivers. New ones never wave as much

The classic will lasst the test of time. Even the untrained eye will spot plastic barry and his stick on bits. Unfortunately it happends to all cars especially those with a legendary status like the classic impreza

The classic is dead - long live the classic.

from www.dictionary.com

CLASSIC [adj.]

Belonging to the highest rank or class.
Serving as the established model or standard: a classic example of colonial architecture.
Having lasting significance or worth; enduring.

Adhering or conforming to established standards and principles: a classic piece of research.
Of a well-known type;

Formal, refined, and restrained in style.
Simple and harmonious; elegant: the classic cut of a suit; the classic lines of a clipper ship.

I cant add anything to that!!!
