I like the way this thread has gone. The response from the police members has made me calm down a lot and I'm glad to stick with my general respect for the police. It does annoy me they can stop me for no reason, but as said if the car was stole, I'd want them to stop it!
I guess its a catch 21 or 22 or 20 (too young for that saying)

Cheers guys.

I was pulled and when I asked why he said " this car says one thing about someone"

saddly you will alway get W**kers in any job... been pulled seeveral times since and the coppers have just said its a subaru mate we have to check them beacuse so many get stolen which I was more than happy with

but still can't say I would ever trust a police officer

so to me Si i dont live in a distorted world at all, like i say one rule for the police and one rule for the rest of us.

You can't rant on about your bosses to me Si, they dont deserve to be in the job having just been told that weve got the worse police force in the country

As stated a police officer (in uniform) can stop any vehicle on the highway and request to see the drivers licence.

Just to add some balance to this thread I have not stopped anyone for "no reason" in the last 6 years. They have always done something to draw my attention or committed an offence.

We can all pick out examples were individuals have got things wrong. Not all cops are correct all the time, or even good or polite. I have worked with some and told them so to their face.

I am deeply concerned about the growing Big Brother state, but I don't wish to say further on a public forum. We all have our views on cameras and tracking, enough said.

Acko, I know of examples of cops being caught drink driving etc and they are punished even more due to being in position of responsibility. There is no excuse for that behaviour from anyone.

in the papers yesterday 45,950 police vehicels were snapped by speed cameras and only 9,128 were given the fine. What does that tell you about the police.
What kind of stupid comment is that !!!

So they should slow down at every camera when on the way to an emergency should they...???

I don't know what you are all moaning about, I think you are lucky if you get pulled over,

At least you have met a real police officer,

When ever I have needed one in the past I just received a crime number.

In fact the last time I had a car stolen I received the obligatory crime number and went out and looked for the car myself, I found it two days later.
I informed the local force so as not to waste their limited resources and they asked if I would let them have the car to gather finger prints.

A week later with no explanation my car was still in a lock up at the station with other stolen recovered's, when I asked why it was taking so long they just said they had'nt got enough cars in to justify collecting the prints as they have to lower the temperature of the lock up.

I saw my **** and got them to drag my car out of it.

(Oh yes it was Grimsby / Humberside)

Sorry Simon our local force has a bad reputation, you've got your work cut out to change it, good luck anyway.

Just another quicky Simon,

I'm guessing you own a Scooby?

If so I bet its a real pain in the **** pulling swiftly through the gears up to 70 and being unable to go any higher.

You could be one of the lucky tw*ts who gets to drive the black or full police liveried Prodrive prepared STI'S Humberside have got, now there's a thought?

A question I always have in the back of my mind is why do police want to become police? Now I know that some will want to serve the public, catch criminals (sure), etc but if the pay isn't brilliant, the stress high, the stigma poor, etc why do people want to do it? Were some bullies at school and see it as a natural progression, etc? Sorry I have to be synnical but surely there can't be so much smoke without a fire!!!

I believe a lot of people feel they need a purpose, or a reason! To be a copper I guess for them is a meaningful job?? I know one Copper quite well and he's the nicest bloke you could ever meet, will take the time out to speak to anyone and if he sees you in a pub he will come over and shake your hand!
On the other side a friend of mine who is trying to join was bullied at school and continues to act in a why.. not accepted in society, for example.. he likes everyone to know he can play poker, he gets his cards out at silly times, like in the pub to strangers and looks a total tw@t.. if he becomes a copper he'll be a real pain in the ***

Police can pull you for no reason.....its just a spot check.

When I was younger I was pulled most evenings in my XR2 or Nova (14 years ago and they werent chavvy then) and I had a real problem with the Police pulling as I really thought they were out to get me...maybe they were but to be honest these day I would rather be pulled and check my docs just incase my car had been stolen than for them to let me by.

There also seems to be a very general impression about Police all being bad people. As someone else has said you get t**ts in all jobs but youre more likely to see it in the Police but I really do feel, knowing a few boys in blue, that it is a very very small minority who use the uniform as a tool to play out some sort of power trip.

Yes they can pull you over if they want for no reason but IMO I have no problem with that, I am law abiding and have nothing to hide. I have always felt that this is good because one day it might be someone in my car thats stolen it!!!

Dont tar all officers with the same brush, I know a good few PO's and they are not the bad type. As always there are a few that spoil it for the rest.

From my experience PO's only turn nasty if they receive attitude/abuse in the first place. I have always been polite and was complemented the same in return.

I feel sorry for the police with the laws these days, they nick people who HAVE commited a crime and the villain gets off with a slap on the wrist from the courts to be back on the street the following day commiting more crime.

Respect to the police I say

and no, i am not a PO

A friend of mine caught a bloke in his garden a while ago in the early hours. (6ft fencing all round)
He rang the police and held the guy until the police arrived, two hours later an officer arrived and asked him if the gate was locked?

When he replied yes the copper said he had to let the guy go or he would charge my friend with false imprisonment.

I just thought this may add a little balance to your parting comments on this post.

(Humberside again by the way)

The guy in the garden may commit the offence of being on 'Enclosed Premises' being in an enclosed yard/garden .... the onus is on the police to prove what he planned to do - a bit difficult if he makes no comment in interview and there is no additional evidence viz his actions/possessions.

Having said that if there is much additional evidence regarding his actions you may have enough for an attempted burglary/theft. If you have nothing other than he is in the garden; albeit over a high 'ish wall then it will go nowhere .... for example, if he said he was hiding from a gang who had threatened him with a knife how could the police prove sufficiently otherwise to the level a court would require that something else was planned/in his mind ?

We all know he was probably up to no good but the police have to have enough to send it to court and unfortunately their 'hunch' and everyone elses opinions are not enough! The law is a wonderful thing for criminals .....
'Enclosed Premises' was - until the law changed yesterday - technically not normally arrestable unless certain conditions applied. The new rules also mean certain conditions have to apply before you can arrest. Arrest is not - unfortunately - guaranteed.

If a member of the public has detained someone in the 'honestly held belief' they had a lawful right to do so because someone had committed a crime then they are not going to get done for anything. PC's who turn up at a call also do not 'charge' anyone - if someone is arrested and dealt with the evidence is presented before a Sergeant and now usually a CPS rep and they decide if a person gets charged to go to court . Unless there is more to this like the man was tied down by his throat, etc, etc then there is nothing to worry about. It would be a little odd for a PC to pass that sort of comment unless there was more of a story.

2 hours to wait for the police is a bit worrying for a suspect detained ... if I have read it right ??? I know some areas are stretched but if that's the case I think I am glad I do actually live in a built up area !
