Again you have to take it in the context in which it was used. My grandfather
who spent a large part of his life in the Gulf only understood the term to mean people of an arab persuasion and definitely not what it is associated with nowadays. I was brought up when Robertsons Jam was adorned with Gollywogs and if you saved the labels you could get brooches or figures
As with everything else in this world you have to take the word in context with the person using it. eg Tony Blair telling the truth

always led to believe 'WOG' wasa term that derived from 'Western Oriental Gentleman....'.... the 'golly was the fella on the jam-jar..

I had two golliwogs.. we could also collect them from robinsons jam jars.. my brother had a massive one with a fantastic tail suit too 
My biggest birthday memory was receiving a dolly, a black one, it was really unheard of in those days and I loved it for it's originality - no one else had one... it was truely one of my most favourite presents ever and I mean that. Things are too ridiculously politically correct these days.. to me, back then, it gave me the opportunity of being aquainted with a different race and for me that was exciting and was also a happy happy time.

My Mum was convinced there was a paint colour called "****** brown".
Apparent M and S used to do Pulloever in that shade !
These arent just Pullovers, these a are Ni**er brown Lambswool M and S pullovers.
I suppose it harks back to the days when you couldnt be racist enough so you had to make even innocent things sound racist.

AFAIK, nigra, ******, kafir and darkie were the generally 'accepted' terms of reference for people of central african origin.

The only racist connection made from a golliwog doll is that which is made in the minds of those PC pratts with their overly fertile imaginations. Those dolls used to be as dearly loved by young children as a teddy bear or any other child's doll. It is a great shame that people are now so scared of the PC idiots who must spend their whole lives trawling through the English language to see what they can try to ban next. Even the Robinson's Golly has had to go!
We really need someone with the guts to stand up in public life to say just how bad this sort of attitude is for this country, especially when the ethnic peole who they say must never be offended even if they have voluntarily come to live in our country cannot understand what on earth is going on and why they should even give such things a second thought!
Little Black Sambo was a revered child's book and served to teach them that there are people of a different colour in the world who deserve their respect also.

Not so long ago i was through the Metro Centre. One of the stall things the have had a load of them on display.
I also thought they was banned or wernt allowed to be sold any more so i pointed and said to my m8 who i was with look Golly Wogs.
Next thing a gang of about 10 Africans or soemthing walked around from behind the stall.
was rather scared they was all about 3 times size of me. Luckily they didnt seem to speak much english and thankfully they didnt seem to hear me.
