I did NOT disclose its price initially you idiot!! NO-ONE knew what it was worth FFS!!!

Yes, its your attitude to ME that is your problem ..... and its YOUR problem, not mine!! You need to do a little growing up!

..And I did not start drumming on about 'bigheaditus' until you mentioned price. Lets face it my good man, I'm surprised it took until post two for you to mention money, detracting from the fact that's still what your first post implied.

I have no beef with yourself, I even find your posts witty and amusing at times. However, I cannot help but feel the image you portray is a mere front for your own short comings as a person, and this saddens me.

I refer you to post #75, a simple and honest post. One that would raise no reaction.

I inherited an Omega watch that my grand dad got for his 50th birthday (34 years ago). It's yellow gold (at least on the outside.. How do you tell if it's gold all the way through? All I know is that it's not flaking) and it's a wind-up mechanism

I don't know anything about watches, but to me it feels special as I know it's my grand dad's watch

My father has a similar one that belonged to his father, it was given to him for having a suggestion taken up by The Company, and is engraved as such on the back. Actually ISTR it was mid-sixties, so 40 yrs old. I've always wondered what to do with it, it's a shame to keep it in a drawer, but I wouldn't want to wear it (can't see anyone else in my family wearing it either) as I tend to be careless, hence my choice of diver-style watches.

I'd guess if it hasn't flaked in 34 yrs it'll be gold through to the other side

Awwwwww, thats sad that it saddens you ........... don't let me sadden you!

I posted up my favourite watch, you said that I was talking bollox .... I clearly needed to expand to give some credibility to the naming of the watch - that is NOT being bigheaded because most people reading wouldn't know the watch I was on about!

I was, however, shocked that you clearly knew your watches .... took me by surprise.

What disappointed me is that if I had said I own a Seiko Kinetic ...... a watch I think is fantastic too and I do own also ..... you wouldn't have commented further on the matter. But, no, because you are clearly jealous of the 'other' watch you question my statement! Now, THAT should sadden you!!!

I bought a Seiko in Hong Kong in 1984 and it is still accurate to less than 3 seconds a month. It cost £90.

Just doing some searching and came across this thread
I too have my granddad's Omega seamaster watch from the 60's and it the only possession i have that I really give a **** about.

My now wifes sister thought it would be funny to get her to tell me that she'd dropped it and it had smashed once when I asked her to look after it whilst I played golf on a trip.
They both ended up crying after I Finished bollocking them for being so fooking idiotic.

Accurist - about 5years old and running great.

I'd like to get something a bit nicer for formal occasions, but it seems a lot of the more desirable brands have been cheapened by all the fakes floating about.

Funny timing, the day after I posted the message about the watch, I sadly lost it somewhere and it was lost for absolute ages (I actually thought I may have left it at the gym or something).

However, on Saturday last week our toaster broke, so the wife lifts it up to throw it in the bin and she found the watch I can not believe I didn't find it as I use the toaster every day and frequently move it about to clean the crumbs on the table top etc

The watch itself has no writing on it except for "omega"... is there a good way to identify if it is a seamaster or something else?

The reputations may have cheapened, the insides are the same. Depends if you buy it for yourself or to impress other people. If the former, WGAS; f the latter, buy a fake, it's a cheaper way of doing the same task

My Rolex is around 6 years old, like new. I have a J.W Benson pocket watch that was in North Africa with my Grandad during WWII that still ticks away (the whistle works, too!)
