Those who don't earn the big money will always want to do whatever to get it and vice versa.
Had this chat with a few friends who all earn loads more than me, they hate not being at home and not seeing their family, yet they earn 4 times what I do.
Do whatever you feel like, as long as you can still afford to live how you want.

Mac, I would have 9 years left if I dont get out, I joined as a boy soldier so 2 years dont count, let me put it this way; If I had to stay in for whatever reason then that is what I would do, but I'm very fortunate in the fact that I dont have too,
unlike a lot of bitter and twisted old farts that just stay in because they cant be bothered doing something else or that they have to stay in for finacial reasons, the way I see it is that I would rather take on a new path in my life while I'm still young enough to bounce back if I manage to take a knock down along the way
I've very much enjoyed my time in the army but it aint what it used to be I'm afraid, money isnt everything, if you bloody hate it then do something about it now! lifes too short,

Fully with you taffy, 9 years is a long time regardless of what pension it may give you - the way pensions are going, they wont be worth anything when we retire anyway

Fair reply mate, but i don't consider myself as a old fart and for my rank i am doing ok. it's just i am a realist and realise that i probably would not get the same wages that i get now. you are right in saying that it is not what it used to be and yes a pension of £10k a year and lump sum of around £50k is not that much but it will pay my mortgage.

P.s If you don't like civvy street, give me a shout and i will send you a commital card and claim the £500 notes.

It is a fact that quality of life is far more important than allowing yourself to be exploited for a high salary. The years that go by missing out with time with your family can never be regained.
It is surprising how many people are trying lower paid jobs and finding out just how true the above remarks are.
