Anyway, i'd personall hold out for a V5 for the simple fact you can Ecutek it

Ecutek is a method used to map the standard fit ecu. The phase 1 engine fitted to the V4 cannot be "tekked". I'm not sure if it applies to the STi and i'm not even sure if it still applies to the uk 98 cars but there "used" to be an issue with modding the 98 ecu. For whatever reason it was a pain if memory serves, and an aftermarket ecu was the only way forward
........oh yeah - the V5 is much more pretty than the V4

The V5 is the phase 2 engine. Don't ask me to tell you the differences though The ecu and intercooler are the only bits i can tell you

Interior is better on the v5,grill,front bumper, rear wing, phase 2 engine, and lots more i cant think of....

All the type r versions are still awsome cars though.

I think he's referring to this:

MY97 Phase 1 engine
MY98 Phase 1.5 engine
MY99 Phase 2 engine

That’s before you've got into the differences between the Type R, Type R Ltd & Type R V-Ltd

here's a reply to the same question that someone else answered
the year.. v4 is 98 iirc v5 is 2k.

I would get a v5.. nicer interior, better brakes, facelifted, more ecu options, etc

other differences are with the crank and bearings, heads, inlet manifold etc..

Thumbs up

Jay-bee, interesting you got your car from Kye Mackay. I pop in there
now and again for a look. Some very nice subarus like you say but
he's very expensive!

Did he give you a good deal? (if you dont mind me asking )

Kosy

It wasnt such a bad deal in the end, got lots of extras that were in the boot (which I had to pay an extra £250 for) but there was LOADS of good stuff, oh and one of the boxes was an Apexi PFC

The original price he gave me was but he dropped a grand off the price without too much hassle, but prob still paid a little over the odds but got the car I wanted

The only way to decribe the whole thing, was like Kye didnt want the business, and I really had to chase him down to get things done

They should be ok for that, mine does more than that

Planning on doing some trackdays then?

Edited to say - Interesting, Im sure it a standard Type R should be able to do up to 150?

And just to point out, Im not saying that it should be alright or recommending doing that on a regular basis or for any length of time at all, although it might not look like thats what I said. Bloody red wine

type r is geared for 130mph, they should not be hittin this regularly at all, no need for it, they are built for rapid acceleration thru the gears, not trying to beat a 160mph supra on the M1!

Ok ok, drunk might be a bit OTT, but a few glasses of the old vino and its enough to hamper my already questionable typing skills
