Flat 4_ire you great ****..........

Does the fact there is type R owners on this thread saying their cars do 150 mph + mean anything to you, or are you so up your own fat *** you cant see the daylight.

The standard type r box will do over 150mph, as in fatmanscoobys type R, Jay_bees type R and my P1 (same box) I have had mine showing nearer 160 GPS verified. The RA is the one with the really short 130mph box - thats the rally derived model - not the type R

The only ******* giving ****e info i can see on this thread is you. If your Haynes manual says that, well its wrong im afraid.

Have a look around this site some useful information you may wish to digest before abusing and telling all the other 999 type R owners they are wrong.

The P1 has a longer 5th gear which was put in to keep the mile munching UK owners happy. Hence the slightly slower 0-60 figure for the P1 over the Type R (I believe the longer final drive does have some impact on all the gears). Its the same as the Type R otherwise.

Flat4, Im not winding you up, Im not lying or anything similar. I have nothing to gain by saying what I said. The lad asked a question and you and I and everyone else has answered. Its up to him to make his own mind up. We know you dont believe that the Type R will do those speeds and thats your opinion. We get it . What I have posted is from personal experience, nothing more nothing less.

Anyway...

PIE CJ

Good luck with the purchase, hopefully we'll see you over in the Type R corner (in the Members Gallery) sometime soon with your new purchase.

look dude, if you tell me u saw ur type r do 150mph + then i believe you ok? i just want to know what the story is with the whole "type r has group n gearbox with seriously close ratios, this meant a top speed slightly less than other imprezas but this wasnt the point of the type r, it was made for....." somethin like that out of the haynes manual, chris reers job. is he a ******** or what then??
lol

Ok bud, point taken. I couldnt tell you what the story is behind whatever's in the Haynes manual, I've never seen one for a Jap STi or any other Impreza for that matter, but then I suppose I've never looked for one

All I can say is give it a try then make your mind up. If you still dont believe, then get on a plane to Manchester, I'll meet you at the airport, you can give me a slap and then I'll take you out in mine and you can see for yourself? Hows that sound?

LOL, my understanding was if they arent the same ratio's, it was the otherway round, the RA had closer ratio's than the R. Actually, I can settle that one tomorrow when I get to my office, I have the V5 & V6 Type R and RA brochures there, they have the actual ratio's in the brochures

type RA iirc does high 140s/low 150s at 8250 in 5th. I remember working out that mine would do 151 point something on 225/40/17s...

The top speed of a V3 or V4 Type R is 130mph, due to the shorter fifth gear. the later versions have a longer fifth and do hit 150 plus

The following table of gear ratios relates only to the WRX STi IV saloon. The ratios for the Type R and RA STi models are significantly shorter, at about 19mph per 1000rpm in 5th.
Gear Ratio Mph per 1000 rpm
1st 3.17 5.1
2nd 1.89 8.6
3rd 1.30 12.4
4th 0.97 16.6
5th 0.74 21.8
Final Drive Ratio 4.44:1

Taken from SIDC faq
If my figures are right, the STi 4 door could do 179.85 mph at 8250rpm
I'm thinking the Type R might do the 150 if this is to be believed

The import 22B had a short ration box didn't it? If so, i've had Scooby-si up my chuff at 150 and he says that was on his limiter

The stats for the WRX (non sti) type ra and V ltd version of the type r. The type r and v ltd versions had a different fith gear (v ltd and P1 were the same IIRC). My v5 STi type r will theoretically do 19mph/1000rpm in fith and sits at about 4000rpm at 80mph on motorways, so this is about right. Rev limit is set to 8250 so top speed is 8250/1000 x 19 = about 156mph, and allowing for loss due to clutch slip, friction, wind etc. 135mph would be about right - gets there quick though! I think v ltd had a final drive of 22mph/1000 rpm = 181mph. RA is race altered though - so can differ a lot between specific cars, not all are the same!

fatmanscooby, what size wheels did your v3 have on to reach 150 plus. Im saying your a liar but there is no way i could get 140mph out of my v3 running 16' wheels unless you catapulted it off a cliff lol. Maybe you have a longer fifth gear
