Vauxhall ??? drove a sri 2.2 before i bought the focus....before i bought the scoob..and it wasn't a drivers car at all, the pedals were the worst i've ever tried..no feel at all...probably electronic clutch and suchlike, interior???? erm, infact i think i was sent there in a dream, or nightmare because i sinned....anyways can't talk about the new vxr because i haven't driven it, looked pretty fast on the tv....but then it doesn't have 300 horses so i'm not bothered to be honest..

used to have an Astra Turbo myself, but unlike some i didn't feel the need to stop at the nearest toilets, knock one out to celebrate, then go onto an Impreza forum boasting how super my car is!!!!

Have to say if I was in the market for a sub £20K new car it would be on my list.

Well not to put petrol on the fire but i sold my 05 astra 2.0 turbo sporthatch for my 05 WRX and i must say the torquesteer with just 170 BHP was taking the michael!! Put the sports button on and switch off the traction control and its goodbye tryes.
Theres one straight bit of road i always give the car a blast down as you exit a side road. Now in the astra even with the traction control on you could boot it (once straight of course) and find yourself being shoved onto the opposite side of the road and the tyres scrambling for grip in the dry. But in the WRX floor it and your off straight as an arrow.
Thats the main reason i cancelled the order of my VXR cos it concerned me with 240 BHP on tap even with LOTUS handling it wont make any use cos it's to much power.
I still have much love for my sporthatch, cos i think the lines (IMAO) are stunning but i couldn't spend £20k on a car just on how it looked.

£19k will get you a brand new genuine UK unregistered MY05 WRX300 with PPP putting out 265bhp...sounds pretty compelling to me...

I remember when I first got the scoob, thought I was the daddy, nothing could touch me, arm on window mutts nuts. Came off the M25 to join the M40. Huge long corner almost a 360 degree jobby. Car sat on my rear bumper, push on a little, look in mirror car still there, push on a little more, car still there. Now i'm going about as fast as im comfortable with and decide to put my arm back on the window trying to look cool and like im not trying. Car passes on the outside .......... Vauxhal Zaffira turbo thingy... Brought me back down to earth with a big fat bump. He had bigger ***** than me for sure......

Tony, I agree with your thinking and would choice the same. I do think the Astra is a little more pleasing on the eye though?

I wonder what would have happened had you been following him? It's always easy to follow.
