hope to restor a little faith..... last night in manc 2 little toerags waited outside a shop, when the owner of a punto emerged with a couple of tinnis to take home for a quiet nite in, said toerags beat him about the head with heavy object and stole keys and car. short time later car sighted toerags bailed out, chased and bitten very hard several times
. again manc bit later 2 different lovely youngsters stole car(neighbour called dibble) and caught the theiving parasites.
. seen a few comments which alarm me.( leave keys in full view)? if we all did this what easy pickings our pride and joy would be,
i dont expect car owners to fight to the death for peices of metal, but come on, house alarms, quality doors/ windows, security posts, lockable gates, tracker, and my fave ANTI HIJACK,most people are just too slack with security thinking it wont happen to them
. if owners of high performance cars would spend a little more on security
rather than making their cars faster(more appealing to theives) perhaps this new found way of taking cars(kicking somebodys door in) would start to subside a little.

It makes my blood boil to hear of such occurences. The bottom line is thieving scum will resort to anything to achieve their goal i.e break into the house for keys. In response to Bobs comment about security, that is why the b******s break into the house because they cannot steal without the keys. Gone are the days of hotwiring the car, modern security systems are doing their job thats why scum need the keys. I think we need an innovative system that delivers 5000 volts up through aforementioned scums **** as soon as they get into the car, but chances are the owner of the car would probably be sued by the thief! What a sad state of affairs.

blackjack on the car would cut it out down the road, far enough for them to not run back down the road and ask you for the code. They'd do a runner, cars not far away either. Safest option all round imo, rather than fighting for the keys.

i would never own a scooby without a tracker
if any1 broke into the house and held me at knife/gun point i could just hand over the keys and the second they leave the house, call 999 and report it all. Shouldnt take too long for plod to find em with the tracker activated.

Locks/security will only keep an honest man out, but agree with banny sti, modern security devices are doing their jobs allot better and stealing cars in this way is obviously the result of that.
I'm thankful that this kind of theft doesn’t exist where i live, to elaborate a bit further car theft doesn’t exist where i live, it's just not possible to get away with it. We're over 100 miles away from the nearest city (Inverness) and there is only 1 road south. you wouldn’t make it 10 miles.
I do however take comfort in the fact that above my bed there lies a 42" katana, less said the better about that.

not being a "hardman " as gutmann says but having recently been burgled they would have to do me an awful lot of damage before i would hand anything over to these ******* scumbag leeches since being burgled it has made me more aware of security doubled up all my locks etc and yes i do have a baseball bat and yes i would use it on anyone breakin into my house not to mention what i would do with the blowtorch / ripsaw / and my favourite pair of needlenose pliers. just my opinion tho

I don't know what i would do unless faced with the situation, i would like to think i would stand my ground and say sorry mate you've got the wrong house, the owner of that car lives across the road ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Or id do a screaming crazy mental outburst and pretend im insane![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Or maybe i would give in and say yeah the keys are there, take it, do you want the cd player fascia aswell........oh and dont forget you can only put optimax in it![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Then as they try to open it i would use the spare keys to lock it and so on....

As bob rightly says there seem to be an increasing number of reports of scooby's (and other cars) being stolen following a house breakin for the keys.
Perhaps all owners should be reminded to set their burglar alarms (perimeter detection systems preferred) at night to try and minimise this problem.
Fitting trackers too in the hope of possibly helping to catch the thieves in th e act too.
Baseball bats optional, personally I'd prefer instant knockout gas cannister in the car

Problem is professional car thieves know where to locate the tracker and sim card and just rip the fella straight out, so its not a lot of use.

its a massive leap to go from stealing cars to burglary/aggravated burglary...be interested to know if any ******* have been knocked off for breaking into someones house, then maybe had sentence reduced because they 'only' wanted the car keys...???

Leave a set of "dummy" keys out including a fake car key (perhaps a proper key with no battery in it) then leave that out, not on view, but easily seen once someone is in the house.
They break in, take the "keys" & by the time they realise that the keys wont open the car, you are awake & called the cops etc. Doubt very much they would return to the house to look for the real keys, too much time wasting.
Dogs are good idea, we have a lab thats soft as anything but boy he makes a noise when he hears things around our place (usually foxes !) If there is one thing burglers hate its lots of noise.

Got myself a Lab crossed with a Rotty, he's soft as a brush with me and anyone I invite into the house, but at night as soon as a mouse farts he's poised to go nuclear!
Had to drag him off the electric man the other day (he was a BIG lad), only assume the dog thought I was being threatened at the door.
He eats my cabbage out of the veg rack tho, suppose its a small price to pay to feel secure in my own house!!!

Even better, buy a really crappy knackered old Impreza Sport, tart it up to look like a turbo and park that outside while your proper car is safely tucked up in the garage - leave the keys for the Sport in full view, and as they race off thinking they've scored, you'll easily be able to chase them and catch them.
Or.... if you have to park in the street, always leave the car outside any house except your own.

important subject so ill have a bit more................ as for leaving a dummy set of keys in view, cracking idea
never thought of that one. unless you have been living on mars you will be aware that most of the high performance cars are stolen by means of car jacking more often than not when owners are returning to their car or parking up
....w.t.f. is this country turning in to? lets all remain vigilant. or sell up and get a pushbike

I have been on the recieving end of such a crime, 12 months ago, 4 blokes at 4am kicked my door in demanding the keys to the car, well they hadnt bargained on me coming down the stairs with a snooker cue handle to take the ***** waving the gun out in 2 seconds flat, he was promptly dragged back through what was left of my front door into the waiting 4x4 at which point they sped off.
They give themselves 1-2 minutes from the point of entering to get what they want or they are off, neighbours may have heard them or you may have called the Police yourself as my wife did whilst i charged down the stairs.
It wasnt until 8 hours after the incident that what i had done sunk in and i needed a large Scottish mineral water to settle my nerves. It wasnt the brightest thing i've done but believe me 'Fight or Flight' kicks in and your instinct takes over all on its own giving you no time to think and make a rational decision.
I would never wish this on anybody.
Zippy
ps. They didnt get anything.

well done zippy mate
Im not trying to condone such actions but if faced with a situation like yours where your family are at stake then you've got to ask yourself "what are they're intentions?"... Yes they may want the keys to the car... but in some cases they plan to do worse
that said, I believe you did the right thing

Was once faced with two home invaders. One had a knife and the other has a small revolver. "We're gonna **** you up, old man!" I launched two .44 projectiles into their persons. Was cleared totally of a crime as they had weapons and deadly intent.
It also helped that the Sheriff was a personal friend. Cleared things quickly.
Upshot of it all was, these two had numerous crimes on their records and suspicioned of a rash of burglaries also.
Ruined my carpet and padding. Wife was really pi$$ed.
Coronor congratulated me on accuracy.
But then, I DO live in the U.S. of A. where we are allowed deadly force to protect our person and belongings.
