I am not a hater of cyclists at all as we have them as well all that winds me up is if the ******** that don't use a cyclepath thats provided for them,it's their for their safety FFS, why the **** should I risk losing one of my wing mirrors down a narrow road with a bus or any other vehicle for the sake of a tosser that won't use something that's provided for them to use

I try and resist temptation normally to post in threads such as this but this time I will : as someone who covers a greater mileage by bike than by Subaru (well over 5000 miles annually and riding to work and back over 50% of the time also) I have to put up with the dangerous driving that some (not all but more than enough) drivers exhibit. I don't attempt to class all drivers as ******** so why some car drivers should need to class all cyclists together as ******** or fckwits is short-sighted.
To say that "..then things like this might not happen,no but they rule the road in their own minds" is, in relationship to this particular incident, stupid to be honest. This incident appears to have occurred on a road where the option of using a cycle-specific lane was not available.
Also the Chief Inspector's comment that ".. no indication to suggest that this is down to something like excessive speed." seems stupid.
When he then states as the deaths as having resulted from a "..a terrible accident." ignores the fact that accidents normally have a cause that can be determined : in this instance the car's speed whilst apparently below the legal maximum may well have been excessive. Excessive for the conditions which was driving on a very cold morning which can, obviously to me it seems, result in roads which have ice or frost or at least a film of slippery dirt and grit which means that driving as close to the legal speed limit is not sensible and might be classed as careless or dangerous.
Maybe some people on here should consider how many cyclists kill/maim other road users as opposed to how many car drivers kill cyclists.
Next time you are stuck behind one think about acting more considerately towards them as opposed to squeezing past them or cutting them up just because you don't believe they deserve as much road space as you : waiting a few seconds to overtake them or make your maneover won't have much impact on your journey time but might help them to complete their journey safely.

The report I saw said black ice. This can catch almost anybody out - especially if you think you've already slowed down to take account of the conditions as you see them. BUT if there had already been an accident at that spot why was the road not gritted or warning signs put up?
As others have said, you can argue about the causes all day but it was just a tragic accident - the cyclists were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Very painful for the families involved I'm sure
