Nice to see an apology - I'm not sure about their not making any money comments though - don't they charge people to advertise on their site?

If they are after our support, and are sincere in their apology, I suggest they do some advertising on Scoobynet - could you suggest this to them - I'm sure they'd get lots of hits of the friendly sort.

I have been on this BBS for one year and this is the first time i have been spamed.

It's very usefull to have a contact email address in case you need some info quickly.

web-xl.com are definately involved in powerseeker. I got a nice rude message from phil@web-xl.com

Strangly although the Scoobynet webmaster claims to have received an apology from powerseeker, why have they not apologised to anyone else? Unless of course a rude email is counted as an apology?

The fact is they <B>have</B> carried out an unlawful act. They sat down & decided how to increase their site hits. They decided against spending money on advertising & instead decided to steal the email addresses from other more successful web sites for their own gain.

What is unusual is this sort of activity is normally carried out by individuals who must hide in annominity because of their activities. Is it a redeming factor that powerseeker are also stupid? I feel it is not.

The email stripping <B>will</B> happen again. Next time our addresses will be stolen by someone who has more sense. This is the reason that my email address is now hidden.

I will get him to "lend" me a virus thats not had the anti virus updates made available yet, see how they like my mail!
probably as much as I liked theirs!

Could I suggest that people do not mail bomb this company or try to launch a distributed denial of service attack?

This would be an offence under the computer misuse act, and be a criminal offence. I suggest that we close this thread or edit such posts, as otherwise Scoobynet may be seen to be promoting such action.

Well done Powerseeker... you've probably lost any buisiness you may have had from me to.

 

I remember a coleague who got so p***** off with people sending junk faxes that he tracked down a fax number for them (on the pretence of wanting to place an order) and then sent them a 50 page blank fax to their sales number, on a Friday evening. The fax was sent via a PC and was sent in 'reverse' mode. (i.e. instead of coming out white it came out black. all 50 sheets were black)

The objective being to have their fax machine run out of toner which I understand is quite expensive.

I would imagine it also ends up blocking their sales line fax number, as without toner I would imagine it would be pretty hard to receive other (genuine orders?) faxes.

I condonde such activities in the strongest possible terms. ;-)

I would like to say that any activity similar to email bombs will only serve to bring this community into disrepute.

I strongly opose and such activity.

They have done something wrong and they have "genuinely" apologised.

They have also agreed to remove all the email addresses. Can we leave it at that?

Advertising a warez site? This must be violating all sorts of ISP agreements... Do *not* mail bomb them, but if you feel aggrieved send a complaint to their ISP as StuartH has recommended above.

BTW - Done a bit of digging and found out that Web-XL and Powerseeker have the same registered address in Hereford. Just got home and found I 've also had a 'polite' e-mail from them telling me to f*** off etc etc. Not amused at all.

Warez = illegal copies of software. Also available, apparently, are serial numbers for software.

Most/all ISPs have a "no spam/no warez/..." as part of their terms of use to protect them from legal action. Breach of these conditions normally results in someone losing their account.

 

Also got the mail - opened up (as appeared to be Subaru related) and deleted.

We are as volnerable to malicious attacks (as was experienced for about an hour on Thursday) as any other web site.
