What about 5W 30 ??

My dealer offer 2 choices 5w 30 Semi or
10W 60 fully.

Both Castrol products Magnetec and RS IIRC

What year is the car and is it modded and/or used on track?

Cheers

No mods except PPP backbox, and not used on track.

Yep,

5w-30 will be fine, 10w-60 is way out of grade.

Most 5w-30 oils are semi, but some full synthetic 5w-30 oils are out there, if you want one of those, look at Motul.

Cheers

Simon.

Simon

Thanks, as its due in at 8am tomorrow not much chance to look about now, so will go with semi synthetic 5W 30.

However may ask them why they are offering 10W 60 when its not in the recomended range per the manufacturers web site. This is a scooby main dealer after all.

If like me you do many short journeys is there any advantge in paying extra for a fully synthetic, or would it be best to go semi and change on a more regular basis. I seem to recall being told that short stop/start journeys lead to a oil performance degredation faster than more normal motoring.

Once again thanks

Neil

Why do the expensive Oils come in 4 Litres?

Cheaper Oil (pricewise) comes in 5 Litres - which is more useful when you have a 4.5 Litre sump and filter to fill!!

Which, of course, makes the expensive Oil more expensive still!!
