It's not just about the polish that gives your car a good shine. Washing properly goes a long way to getting a good finish when you finally apply the wax. I read a Porsche mag article about cleaning cars and they were saying that each panel should be washed and indiviually. They were using Zymol. They also said wash using cold or tepid water, not warm or hot as a lot of people do. Rinse the panel firsh and then wash the panel from top to bottom. In between each wype dunk your sponge back into the water and then rinse the panel off and move to the next, then clay bar any stuborn bits or even all the panels. Once this has been done then apply your wax or polish. Again they were using Zymol polish. I think it may have been the Zymol starter lit they used, which I believe is around £100 or so. I seem to get very good results washing and polishing in this way and the paint work appears to stay grime free a lot longer and the water just runs straight off in rain

Turtle wash and wax for me!!
I got it for £1.29 from motorpoint and all my mates said "thats a waste of money...blah blah blah so we had a competition. Three of us washed our cars (one used zymol, one used autoglym and i used my cheep nasty wash and wax.)
We then got five neutral people from the pub (who didn''t know which car had been polished by which substance) to say which car they thought was the best.
Guess what....mine got 4 votes out of 5!!
Morale of the story....expensive polish just doesn't wash with me!
Dog.

Or just machine polish![Thumb](images/smilies/thumb.gif)

p21S is a carnuba wax and not really a polish . .Its so foft, it wount even attack a water mark . . .But , I is brilliant and perhaps the best wax I have ever used! Yr car looks fantatic!
. . .With P21S , the copper who pulled me over for speeding, even said . .How lond have you had this car? Thats because with p21s it looked so new!![Lol1](images/smilies/lol1.gif)
But, as far as polishes go, iy yr paintwork is older and a bit faded, swirl marked, Merr is the best polish ( me thinks) . .

I use meguiers liquid gold gloss wax its absolutly awesome(after washing and claybar too), you dont need to much of it and can br wiped off without a long wait. Leaves a lovely glossy shine, I used autoglym before but not now.

Meguiars wax/polish is the one to go for
.
Used Autoglym for years and thought that was good but have got to say Meguiars is much easier to apply and buff up.
Currently using their pure polish and carnuba wax, excellent results
!!.

Farcela and 3M products, their is alot more method to the application and finish but these are professional products that blow the socks off any of these over priced retail products.

Wouldnt touch Autoglym again as after while it scratches the paint work, as its got chalk in it, thats why it turns your plastics white when you get it on them.
I've been using some stuff recommended by a friend who does concourse events with his porsche, made by a company called DT Concours - http://www.dtconcours.co.uk
Works brilliantly, its water based as well and leaves a really nice finish and best of all no white marks on my plastics.

The guy asked for polishes and people are talking about waxes?
What colour is your car? do you want a polish, sealant, glaze, wax????
What are you gonna put on the car once you've polished it?
Gimmie some more info mate as to what you actually want
Get on to detailingworld and autopia mate and ask people that actually know.

Too right...by looking at this thread it seems that dolloping on a bottle of polish is all that's to it for a proper job....far from it!! Without the rest, its a waste of time and money.
Any polish, should be followed by an application wax or other sealant. Not mentioning prepping the paint surface before polishing

And I wouldn't be proud to show a piccy of my car when it has orange peal for paintwork
