Greetings Wagon Crew!
First post on this thread, and hopefully one of thousands to come.
Took my first test drive last night in a 04 WRX Wagon last night and was mightly impressed with it. Coming out of my pride and joy, a 25th Anniversary Golf which is 99% of the time kept immaculate due a passion for detailing (passion/addiction) and Im hoping to do the same to this little puppy.
Quick question, its due it 30k mile service, just wanted to know if thats a "biggy" and usual dealer price - I will more then likely as the seller to get it done for me before I part with the cash but just out of curiosity Id like to know.
Now to find the best insurance cover - Direct line came in at £400 fc but needed a tracker fitted......will shop around of course first.
Now then, will the wife spot the PPP invoice on the credit card next month???????

Welcome to the best thread on SNet
For insurance you MUST!!!! give gary moulson (Keith Michaels) aka Moley_WRX on here a call, he is a legend for insurance
He is some times hard to get hold of as he is very busy with giving everybody on here quotes. Best thing to do I found was to PM him Moley_WRX and introduce yourself and say you were recommended by myself and others (he gave me a unbeeeelieeeeevable good quote yesterday on our STI Wagon) and leave your telephone number and he should get back to you, he is very busy but he is the cheapest and best insurer gouing.
Here's what he did for me - Import '99 STi Wagon 315BHP, 36 with no NCB as on other car, 3 points, fully comp with wife on insurance and all mods declared £580 !!!!!! That is less than we were paying for our 04 WRX we just sold, totally standard insured in wifes name with 9 years NCB
Give him a call

Jesus! Thats expensive for just what looks a basic service....
Definately going to get the seller to get it done before I part with the cash then......Anything else thats "wrong" would be replaced under the warrenty though so not too bothered about that. Just trying to work out why £400-£500 though - £70 per hour (same as my VW garage), parts no more then £140 - can only be 2-3 hours work tops....giving £350....
Am I missing something as a newbie?
Might just call the local dealer....."introduce myself as anally retarded"...

Welcome to the cheap word of Subaru motoring it's worth it though
If brake pads need replacing (which they could after 30k) they won't be covered by warranty
Xtreme Scoobies charge just under £400 for the 30k service and they are a independent garage
Blimey yet another CORNER

So, I would phone up subaru and give them the reg or chassis no and se if this car was sold under this and is entitled, if it is then the seller is pulling thw wool saying they will get this done and using as bargaining power when in reality he knows its free and not going to cost him. Personally if it does need a service that is not FOC then I would us this as a baragining tool against him, go to a dealer get a quote fpr service then tell him not to worry about service you will get it done, but you want that figure plus X Amount more knocked off, at least you you know you had peace of mind that service done properly, they might bring lots of stuff up on service but he doesnt want to pay so says just leave it as he doesnt want to pay anymore. if you get it done and they highlight problems you have choice to get it done or not, how many things is he going to hush up
I'm a cynical old ****** though

Nah, I know the seller VERY well so they are not pulling wool over anyones eyes.
They had it serviced in March at 23k, and the breaks where done at the same time (saw the bill last night in teh service booklet). So its only done 7k miles since the last service, and its not quiet 12 months since the last one - but I know that the service schedule says 30k, or 12 months.......So I dont think Im being "unreasonable" to ask them to do the service before hand - if they were selling it on the trader for instance, this would still be picked up by any buyer.
The Golf wasnt a cheap car to keep going, so I would rather pump the money into 226(??) BHP rather then 180!!!! And that PPP looks soooooooooo tempting!
What else? Dump Valve, Charge Filter??
