Your looking at approx 2.5-3k bill for engine rebuild 16v6n on these, or about 2k for a second hand engine to drop in.
The economics make the engine rebuild a better option, depends whats gone on them but it actually works out cheaper to rebuild the bottom end with a STi ver9 one (crank/rods/pistons) and slap your existing heads back on. The block may be damaged or need reboring, and heads may be goosed, but a good ball park is no more than 3k for a good rebuild.
be wary od STi wagons out there that aren't, theres loads of UK ones done up as STi's and lots of dodgy dealers faking WRX Imports as STi's ... alway check the Vehicle ID plate under the bonnet and cheeck the model number against here Subaru Impreza FAQ 2.2.1 Japanese Production Runs.
Happy Hunting, any advice please post up

Cheers for that Smiles... I was hoping to get a 97+ Version 3 Wagon facelift, I went to see one Nr Rickmansworth the other day.. It was a genuine V3 but a little tatty for the money and Looks like the back end has been repaired at some stage.
It seems
If you do spot one I'd be gratefull if you could let me know.
I dont mind rebuilding an engine myself.. In fact i'd probably prefer to do it that way
I like the idea of the Wagon because its not classed as Boy racer as the saloon

Wagon Build back on Track
It has been slow progress and I have been in hibernation on this thread, plus Trails has started a similar Wagoners thread on SIDC forum that we are busy getting post counts on Spreading the Wagon Love
So, the build has started, some updated pics will be uploaded at weekend. Some goodies have just arrived from Carl Davey in the form of inlet manifold and header tank heat resistant spacers, top quality stuff
Hopefully the Block will be back from the machine shop soon and my nice shiny JDM Sti 9 Nitrided crank will be arriving

Wagoners Know better and can rise above it
Clutch pics later, but plate/ piece has signs of heat cracks, bearing also notchy and no grease left
Cambelt tensioners - have left the building, no hydraulic fluid left.
Not stripped heads yet for inspection
Pistons worn on the sides
ypu can push down on pistons about 5mm or more where bearings has collapsed - confirmed by lumps of metal in sump and swarf.
I feel like frying tonite
comparison
original was 'Exceedy stamped on it
thats fubar'd
Trails, you weren't wrong when you said my clutch was slipping
Shiny new replacements
In need of TLC
all ready for new paint
Next inthralling issue coming soon when we strip the heads and get the crank out

2.0 SPORT WAGON ADVISE
Hi, I am new member and this is my first introduction to the forum. Hello!
I need some advise on the Impreza 2.0 Sport. I am looking to purchase a 97MY vehicle with FSH with 67k miles showing, with a cambelt change at 43k.
Are there any particular things to look out for, or is it completely reliable?
Are there any recall actions on this model?
Does this model have 157BHP?
Look forward to your advise.
Thanks

you cant see it in the pic, but that funny looking blue number plate is cardboard with blue electrical tape stuck on to make the letters, FFS.. you can set a set made up at halfors for about 20 quid

Docks auction ****e no doubt. Thats where most pikey car dealers pick up their 'imports'; although they all claim to have a 'man over there'. Most of the imbeciles couldnt point to Japan on a map, let alone export a car from there!

I dont really have any advice to give on this as not a Sport knowledgeable person, so maybe one of the other wagoners can respond, thought would say hello anyway though.
