it is a shame that all these factors contributed to the demise (unless they do phoenix from the ashes) but facts are facts...thye should have kept us informed of their problems.. we are understanding honest
all it took was a carefully worded email to all subscribers.
that would have taken..ohh about 20 mins to write and would have smoothed loads of ruffled feathers..but heres the rub.
If (and a big if) they did manage to get things sorted again, then i think the damage is done in terms of bad feelings and upset people. so whatever the quality of the mag and articles, it would take a damm miracle to get the goodwill back..all that lost by non-communication..sad.

I was one of many subscribers to Scoobymag, sorry Scooby Mag
and yet another customer who has lost money paying for subs in advance. So,if for instance they do get something sorted and get back to publishing a new mag I bet they're gonna be expecting us all to pay for subs again and what remaining subs we have will be lost (Money down the drain in my eyes!)
As others have stated,it's not difficult to communicate via a particular channel ie Scoobynet seeing as most of the subscribers no doubt come on here and that way people are aware of a problem rather than the opposite where people have to summise what has happened!!
Why don't the people responsible for this mag make a statement on here and let us know what's happening and what has happened to our lost subs? (After all they have posted on these Scooby mag threads in the past and now all we have is silence....)

If the name of the magazine was the only outstanding issue after having them reprinted, then couldn't they have bought £50 worth of labels and covered up the title on the front, and gone through the mag with a marker pen blacking out any more references to the word scooby?
There must be more to it than that.
They probably would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for those pesky kids

it is a shame about scoobymag as i really enjoyed it but as time went on they seemed to encounter more and more problems delayed dates, poor communication old articles that had appeared in other mags-i thought the scoobymag articles were better culminating in the present disaster leaving a lot of unhappy people who are p*ssed off they have lost money and no communication. i appreciate there are legal issues but as mentioned above they have lost a lot of support from the way it has been handled.i do feel sorry for jon as he has obviously put a lot of work into the mag

As i said earlier the mag is great....
BUT bearing in mind he found time to come on here, plug the mag, plug the subscriptions etc - then whatever the reason for closing down he should have the decency to come back and explain the subscription situation.
I have no doubt it was a genuine attempt at a genuine mag and dont think for one minute is he is in the bahamas at all....
But it still stinks. Whatever happened to politeness?

Personally, i think its a feckin disgrace !!!
Would have been nice to get an email to soften the kick in the nuts - when i get screwed, i prefer to get kissed first
If the guy has gone bust then i feel for him, but at least let people know whats going on then you don't get so pi$$ed off - don't mean to sound like a heartless git, but i work hard for my money like most other people and to get knocked gets right up my nose. Its simply "good manners" to let your customers know whats going on.
I paid my subsciption in january (£38) - some sort of contact would have been nice - i'm slowly losing my faith in the human race![EEK!](images/smilies/eek.gif)
rant over - apologies if it offends but thats the way i feel

Like ACID says, Jon and co probably have a couple of more important things on their mind than a couple of whinging punters on a BBS.
Even if he did have a spare ten minutes i'm sure he'd rather take time out to relax than come on here and fight a war with the keyboard terrorists. Who can blame him? If we take what is stated as true i know i'd be concentrating on dodging the lawyers, salvaging what i could from the mag and doing my best to get it put back into production rather than waging some moral debate.
I chatted to Jon shortly after issue 3 (IIRC) was released and he struck me as being a completely upfront bloke. Dedicated to developing the magazine and putting it on as many shelves in Britain as possible. To get the magazine distributed across the coutry was going to cost him thousands of pounds every month (i think he said 8k) and that's before printing costs etc. Not something i'd personally fancy trying to make a profit from.
So IIRC i paid my subscription after issue 2 - so how many issues does that leave me down? I don't know and don't care tbh.
I'd quite gladly have paid double the subscription to support Jon & Dee with their efforts. For what it's worth i think they did a fantastic job and i hope they find a way to continue to do so.

what everyone is saying....
is that yeah the fact that we have no magazine is a pain
yes, we arent too happy about losing money paid for subscription
etc etc
but we dont want to ask jon to come on here to explain everything in detail, air his laundry in public and get into a so called "keyboard war".
we are not saying that and ffs, whats £20? most of us spend more than that on pigging stickers, mods and petrol
the money aint the issue here, not even the continued slipped publication dates etc
what we are (the collective) saying, is it would be fair and polite just to post up a brief explanation as to what is happening re the magazine.
as they say, something is better than nothing, even if it is just 10 lines of post, saying:
sorry guys things are out of my control, legal problems, printer problems etc have made it impossible to continue. sorry to upset people, we did try and we will endeavour to sort out the subscribers yadda yadda
Now how long would a post like that take? no time at all...
We are a very tolerant lot and I am sure, reading previous posts, you will see a large amount of support for the magazine and jon..that goes without question and is undeniable.
A lot of people have said that they couldnt care less about the money if it meant that the magazine arrived some time this year..that just shows the amount of goodwill to the team.
But.....no communication means you get people speculating as to what has happened and all these bad feelings generated.
It could all be stopped by one lousy post...
Most of us are realistic and are pretty wordly wise, so we arent expecting our money back, we have resigned ourselves to the fact that reading between the lines, we know that the magazine, for whatever reason, is having problems..jesus, it dosent take much to work that out, but just bloody tell us something !!!!
That is my final word on the subject..sad if it is true they have folded, sad for whatever personal and financial circumstances jon and the team are going through and such a shame that such a great magazine has been lost.
But, tell us what the situation is and so much faith could be restored in a moment...all it takes is a quick post.

I agree that a lot of the heat could have been taken out of this had Jon posted some form of explanation. I don't know what has happened but running your own business as Jon was doing can be a very lonely existence, especially when things go wrong and despite your best efforts, the tide is against you.
Backed into a corner, one problem after another, financial commitments, deadlines, guarantees, your standing and reputation, all in jeopardy, perhaps too your house or all you have ever worked for. I don't know but when you are in that corner, what might seem obvious to an outsider ie a post on Scooby Net (Scoobynet) may be the last thing you want to do because of the stress and feelings you have and while you intend to do it, it is easier to put it off until the next day.... and the next........... and the.................
I have no time for rip offs or shysters but Jon does not fall into that catagory. Taking on the responsibility for producing a magazine of the quality he achived was a big undertaking with no publishing house behind him. He was Editor, photographer, reporter, advertising sales rep, art work director and everything else rolled into one, so, if he has had the bad luck and misfortune reported earlier by Andy, it is hardly surprising that it has sunk him, for now atleast,
