Common sense really... isnt it?

Damian (City of London police)

I dissagree Damian

Using common sense surely means assessing the person, a 79 y/o woman with a heart condition being removed by force from her home in handcuffs is not common sense or common decency imho.
The Police involved sholuld be ashamed of themselves along with a government that allows this to happen.

If the Police want help and respect from the public then situations like this need to be better handled.

If you feel this wasthe best course of action in the case then perhaps standards in the Police really are slipping.

God help us

Damian666

In keeping with your screen name which tells us something of your character, you are obviously somewhat thoughtless and selfish as well as being "drest with brief authority"

It's not just one OAP that's not paying, there is a common feeling in the oap community that the rise in tax is way above what it should be. Lots of OAPs around the country are refusing to pay, as such it becomes an issue and gets headlines...thats the only way to get in the news these days.

Paul-s,

I dont think so really because if those people do protest at the unfair council tax increases year on year, they may well force the Government to be fairer with regard to grants etc and everyone will benefit from that.

Paul.

I think that you'll find that most of todays pensioners are not work shy fops considering the era when they were working (30-40 years ago); they just didn't earn enough to put money away for their retirement. Fast forward 30-40 years from now though + it will be a different storey. Scroungers, dossers etc who have never worked in their lives will be claiming a pension or it's alternative from the Govt. People that work hard now may be no better off than the scroungers of today. Who knows what the future Govt has planned for your hard earned cash currently sitting in the Bank, an ISA or a pension pot. Same goes for your house if you have worked hard enough to own it when you retire ... don't even think about letting your children have the house of course as you'll need to sell that to pay for the Home that you live in when you're too frail to look after yourself.

Didn't the Govt think about taxing the money that people make on house price increases?! Wonder if they'd give it back in the event that house prices went down? Let me think, we get taxed (some of us at 40%), we then pay our mortagage out of that taxed sum... you've already taxed me to the hilt then you want a further slice of money that I make on the house paid for with money that I've already been taxed on!!! FFS it makes my blood boil.

Rant over.

TX.
