Hmm thought it was just the back window and side windows that were made from thinner glass on the Spec C - I wouldve thought having thinner glass on the front screen would break safety regs ...

Stick a heated one in from Demon Tweeks. No more cold morning problems.

If mine goes, I will be.

BU**ER all i reckon TBH... see what rac windsceens say as would be nice to be correct but wont push too much for it as if i use the car again think it will spread right across the screen....

Have you spoken to Iain Litchfield about the windscreen spec (no pun intended) on the MY03 Spec C ?

He assured me that the MY06 is the same as a standard UK/EU one and thinking logically about it, it might be a bit dangerous to have a thiner front screen fitted as standard; you don't want something coming through the screen.

just got a big dirty crack on my blobeye spec C windscreen. ever have a sizeable stone drop out of the sky randomly?! that has happened to me twice - with no other cars in the vicinity

anyway, not got a clue what i should do. (MOT just around the corner too!)

seems no one can agree whether they are thinner or not. don't think it matters, doubt i could get a thinner one in time.

can you get a new windscreen with your insurance? does it affect your premium?

thanks.

When I had my MY06 Spec C I replaced the front screen with a normal after speaking with Iain.

On the day it was removed, the original was in fact the same thickness as replacement normal screen.
So unless anyone has been able to show otherwise I would just put a normal screen in. From what I have seen only the side windows glass is thinner being 4mm glass rather then the standard 5mm glass.

thanks. do you think the 2004 blobeye spec C's are the same thickness then?

i read other threads on here people got expensive (over £1k!) spec C windscreens imported from Japan... even had to wait a few weeks for shipping. were they delusional?

is it a myth spec C windows are thinner - maybe different models/years were thinner?

The JDM screens are different to the UK ones though, they don't have the clear section in the bottom right hand corner for the vin number to be displayed, thinner or not I don't know but I'd know it wasn't the right one if I saw it

Spec C side windows are 100% thinner at 4mm glass over the standard 5mm glass. so its a 20% weight saving.

My front windscreen was no thinner to the standard one, so I don't believe its any different (although this was on a MY06, so cannot comment on other models)

I have read that the Spec C windscreen is the same as the Impreza GL screen which is thinner. Either way Id just stick any windscreen in, it makes no difference in really.

So applying simple logic - if a standard screen weighs 20kg and a Spec C screen is 20% thinner then we are talking about a weight saving of 4kg!
If this is enough to bother anyone then don't brim the fuel at the petrol station every time or apply many other methods of saving weight!
It really doesn't matter!

The screens are thinner, also a different colour (clear), you also get blue tint and brown tint, I think blue is for UK and brown are JDM, so really it just depends if you want to keep your originality or not but they take quite some time coming from Japan if you do want one as Subaru UK wont hold any in stock.
