I've seen a FST today, in blue. Was sat behind it for a while till i got bored. Think he was running it in. Dual exhausts has a HUGE cat that must weigh a ton!

Leaving aside the point that ultimately, most of it is about money, I don't disagree that many of them are enthusiasts. That does not, however, give them any right to be acknowledged as being "experts" who's word is gospel.

I'm not dismissing all of what you have said. I would, however, be more inclined to accept the opinions of someone who owns the vehicle in question and driven it over varying conditions, day to day than someone who has, comparatively, very limited mileage and experience in that vehicle.
There is a huge difference between a day or two of testing and living with one for longer periods of time.
As for experience, that is a two way street. With that many cars to drive there is very limited opportunity for longer term involvement.
Do you ever read the long term tests? More often than not the verdict is quite different to that of the original road test.

I think what sgcooby means is that, despite him having a scooby and him and us knowing it is a good car. If he read in a magazine that it was ****, he would beleive it just because it was in a mag

Just another worth less 2 pence worth, I don't own a vxr or and st but i do own a Megane 225. However the wife lord bless her would like me to get a focus st, because her mother has a basic focus and she prefers the driving position and the way the clutch operates. Se always stalls my meg at least twice a journey.
So i mumbled something about "you have your own bloody car just stick to driving that" then headed to the ford garage.
After half an hours drive i feel that i the best compliment i can give the ST is that it is completely uneventful. Lovely car seems to be built well, drives nicely, comfortable. The extra pot does make the engine sound great when it revs. The seats grip well (i'm average build 5'10 15 stoneish slimish waist), though it was the st2 i was driving so i hope the st3 thousand point adjustable seats are even better. There is only one thing that is troubling me about it. In the megane i can feel the boost come on, 2-3k and you can feel it almost bunch it's muscles and prepare to go. The ST feels completely linear in it's power delivery. I couldn't feel any steps or kicks just a continuous rise in revs and power. For me that kind of defeated the object of having a turbo car, ok so not a great point but i do love the feeling of the car coming on boost and starting to get a shift on.
Would i buy an ST? yes probably, why, because it does the majority of the things i want it to do, and i wouldn't get any ear ache from the missus after she has stalled it 4 times at the top of the street. In the short term i'll stick with the meg to keep her on her toes. plus i like finding out what other bit of trim has started to rattle and which electrical system has just decided to have a holiday.

Rob its French, I had a Citreon just as crap and I'll not start on Pugs its unfair.
On thinking about it Citreon should have stayed making dianes, least they come to bits easy.

test drove an astra vxr today and was very impressed
build quality was superb and loved the seats
not the power of my sti but never thouight it would be
awaiting the st focus for a comparison
