What exactly does a Power Boost Valve do, where can you get them and how hard are they to fit??

i fitted a K+N cone filter but mine is a road rally car and never gets used on the everyday roads and only on events, the reason i fitted the power boost valve was on the dyno the mixture was lean when the car was revving hard, this is impossible to correct on the regular set up but by fitting a boost valve it can be adjusted which we done on mine and got the mixture perfect on revs up to 7000rpm, the valve is easy to fit and can be done in mins, the magnex 4 branch made a difference too cos its better flowing than the standard manifold but the magnex ones aren't made anymore and are hard to find, expect to pay around £150 for one if you find one.

Thanks for the info.. Hadnt heard of the H/Gasket problem before!!

I'm mainly wanting a backbox for a wee bit of noise, but I'm not wanting one of the big 6" boom boom boxes that you see hanging out the back of all the Ricers in their Civics, Starlets and Subarus..........

Thanks Dave, maybe worth investing in a Power Boost Valve, but I bought this as a runaround that I can take on some twisty back roads with my mate in his 205 (which is almost roadworthy now ) for a laugh. Wasnt planning on spending much money on it until I came back and took it on Track... Already got 1.9 Alloys & Tyres, Stainless Centre and Front Section and Lowering Springs lined up for it. Typical.

I cant believe there are so many people on here that have had/currently have these cars?!

Cheers,
Grant

Have to say, never really heard of any head gasket problems, or had them go on any of mine.

Main top end concern is the stem seals, as they harden over time. Look out for slight blue smoke on idle/overrun. Easy enough to fix though.

Magnex BB gives a nice deep sound but not too loud.

Never heard of any H/G faults either! Other than that Chris is on the nail

Forget the Power Boost Valve - its a waste of money

I have the Magnex BB - was about 100 quid, nice deep burble but not annoying The Group N is your other choice, while still carrying off the standard look.

You guys think that a Magnex BB will bolt up to a Scorpion Centre (with a bit of persuasion ).. thats the make of the front and centre sections that I've been given.

Do you know of any online suppliers that I could go and check out, it'll really irritate me if I've got front and centre sections sitting in the garage without a back box!!

Also, how hard will it be to lower the rear of the car... a friend said that as soon as we touch it things will crumble away and that it'll all be locked hard into place. That true?!

Grant

Pretty true from what I hear . . . . . . . Thats why we have a second rear beam being delivered on Tuesday

Regarding head gaskets - we have never had a problem either and we are running the engine on some "funny stuff" to the extent that brand new coolant hoses start to melt and delaminate after one days racing

Thank god for Samco . . . . .

Just to be on the safe side we have a spare engine lined up though.

I'll probably have loads of spares this weekend once i've taken a sledge hammer to the fecking thing and smashed the whole car into a million pieces

MOT was booked for today, everything was fine until yesterday and it refused to start - it then let out the loudest backfire i've EVER heard and now it just turns on the starter.

Time to buy some new plugs and tweak the ECU I think, bloody things

I may get a drive in it this century

DW Just stick a 1.9 8v back in it & run some Nos. Similar result with a lot less hassle

The ONLY alloys that should ever grace a 205 are 1.9 Speedlines (best alloys ever full stop ) or Nimrods.

DW - ah fecking crap mate - you really have come up against it!

how can you say a power boost valve is a waste of money? i paid £25 for mine and if i hadn't i'd have needed a new engine cos on the dyno my mixture was under 3% co at 6k rpm which would have destroyed the engine on a rally, you can't adjust the mixture normally but by fitting a power boost valve you then can, my car is now running 6% co at 6K rpm so explain why its a waste of money?

Dave, I think he meant that for me to get it one for fast road conditions, would be a waste of money... Obviously the higher the state of tune the car is in, the more adjustability it needs to keep it running properly.

Obviously he might just have meant it was a waste of money, full stop.

Well, the 16's were a bit scuffed up and needed a couple of tyres.. so think I'm going to stick with the 1.9 Speedlines and lower it 30mm front and rear, however, are there any tips for lowering the rear its just that I've been told its going to be a nightmare if its been standard all its life.

Tomorrow I'll be ordering a RamAir Panel Filter, the front springs, the 15" Speedlines and brand new tyres, just need a nice subtle stainless back box and I'll be happy now!!

Cheers,
Grant

No you are right mate - it would be pointless on your car, hence my comment. Have a look on 205GTiDrivers.com and see what they think of them On a lightly breathed on ROAD car they are pointless, fueling is fine and they don't add any power which is the main reason people fit them (misleading name!). With the mods you've listed it would be a complete waste of cash better spent on petrol and having fun!

The rear sus is torsion bars, you have to pop it out and drop it a spline or two. It can be pretty seized - lots of Plusgas! Failing that most half decent garagey type places should be able to do it for you for about an hours labour.........
