The fact remains that a teacher is in a position of trust. The fact that one of the individuals in question ultimately married the girl is irrelevant. He didn't know that would be the outcome at the time, although when his comments were broadcast on the radio he said that he didn't have sex with her before she was sixteen because he didn't want to go to jail.
Not going to jail appeared to be his motive for not having sex with her, as opposed to the fact that it was ethically and arguably morally wrong to abuse that position of trust.

Whilst we're at it, why don't we just bin the rehabilitation of offenders concept completely. Once a criminal, always a criminal. Nelson Mandela would love this.

At your age Tiggs I would expected you to be mature enough to understand the ramifications of a teacher starting an affair with a young girl-hardly more that a child at that age, who is appreciably less than half his age.
There is such a thing as common decency too!

Ian Huntley was not on the list as he was never convicted of anything. Various police forces had suspicions about him and had investigated him, but he was never charged and convicted. ergo. He was not on the list.

I do understand - i also understand the ramifications of muppets hyping the issue to a point where the law sees no grey areas (which will always exist)
"end of the day ian huntly was on that list

lol......need i say anymore! Fools

Show me where the "hyping" comes in. It was a straight statement of the facts. Black, white or grey do not enter into it in any way whatsoever.
I can't think of anything you would be able to say to justify your attitude as stated in your earlier post. We can only put it down to elitism on your part and a realisation that you have lost the argument since to have to resort to calling us fools.

In the past many people when faced with a totally spurious allegation might have accepted a caution (and resultant placement on register) to avoid the public humiliation of trying to clear their name. The register is a very blunt tool indeed, mainly because it is not subject to the due process of law.
What happens to the hypothetical 16 y/o who has been placed on the register now that the rules have changed, and he is not allowed to enter a school at all, how might his education continue? The press have a lot to answer for.
