You gave all the reasons for their conviction and sentences in your first post. Do you suspect the facts you gave and feel that they may not be guilty, are you saying that the Thai Government cobbled it all up. And do you know that they are actually simple as you put it.

If you feel uneasy about it then you must have good reasons for doubting the facts they were convicted on-can you give us the run down on that.

From what i gathered on the news, the bay where the murder happened was also the bay where the fishermen were moored up in their boat along with several others. They reamained after the incident and got nicked for it.

If they are supposedly innocent then the dna must have been rigged
why would they be smiling and smirking throughout their trial if they were 2 innocent people sentenced to death for murder.

If the case had been in the news and no one had been arrested in months people would be moaning about that, I think its a bit fishy (ahem) but it seems they are the culprits. You can only leave that countries judicial system to follow its process.

Indeed, they are WAY too happy to be aware of what **** they are in!! They were smiling in court when told they would die FFS!!!!

They have been told some story like, "It's ok, it's a film for the western market, you play along and we will give you and your families $$$$"

The only time they will realise that it's all been a con is when they pop off to sleep and never wake again - mind you, they won't even know whats happening then, will they??

Pete according to the news on R5 and an interview with a brit who wons a bar/resraunt on the island the two fishermen where handed over by thier mates on the fishing boat after bragging to them about the rape and murder.
British Police where involved with the forensic process and it id'd these two as the culprits.

If it were my daughter, I'd want the people who did it brought to justice. I would NOT want a scapegoat or innocent imprisoned.

Anyway, hopefully time will tell as to whether the guys are guilty or not. If they are, then credit to the authorities there for a fast turnaround. If they are not, the whole thing would put me off visiting the place. After all, imagine if you were set up or framed as a drug trafficer and the case was over that fast and death penalty round the corner?

Do you think we'll know within the month, as time is now something of a pressing issue for them.

At the end of the day -as the above poster has said- you just have to trust that the Tai authorities realise that putting two innocents to death to appease the tourist industry would backfire masively if they were discovered. They maintain that it was an open and shut case- they may well be right.

I think that the case was fast-tracked through the courts instead of the usual months and months of waiting. Had it not been for this, it would seem like a normal case.

They may appeal which will take a few months.

I'm still not comfortable with the death penalty though (bucking the uneducated-working-class-extreme-right-wing ScoobyNet tradition...). Thai prisons look truly awful; surely a full-life sentance there would be punishment enough; it looks like purgatory after all?
