But, I think you will NOT find SOCO's down the road holding speedguns!
That would be the traffic police I think? Paid to stop criminals on the road ..... NOT paid to chase muggers, rapists or look at your windowsill ........
........ criminals? Yes, you know, speeders who MURDER people!

Never mind how they are supposed to catch people, isn't it obvious that the public perception of the police can only be harmed by their apparent disinterest in crimes that REALLY DO affect people EVERY TIME that crime happens, rather than concentrating on easy to catch motorists, speeding, who MIGHT, just MIGHT injure someone some day by speeding?

We do take an interest in crimes that effect people.
A speeding ticket will take about 10 minutes to do.
A burglary report & statement can take 2-3 hours. Add onto that the hours spent by CID and Crime analysts.
I may not look the case - but there is a lot of behind the scenes work on each burglary

Most people's SINGLE point of contact with the Police these days is via a speeding prosecution. What really then revs those same people up beyond a joke is when they need help, and none APPEARS to be forthcoming. It's not enough to say "we're working behind the scenes", mate. Someone who has been burgled feels completely stunned, angry and as if their life has been invaded by scum. They need to SEE and FEEL as if something is being done. They DON'T want or Need to wait 4 days for SOCO and to be give a crime number as sole point of contact and told to claim on their insurance.
Now I know burglars don't have number plates on them like us mororists,

As soon as one occurs, officers are tasked to attend. That officer will remain at the scene until all possible immediate enquiries are done. (statements, house-to-house etc). SOCO will attend at the same time are at least the same day. Crime prevention will also attend within days and the victims are given information about victim support and neighbourhood watch ect ect.
All the enquiries conducted are then passed to a dedicated team in CID who will colate all the info. It will then be easier to spot if it a number of breaks are done by the same people. This also frees up the original officer to take on the next burglary.
By the way. 99% of all breaks these days are what we call walk-in-breaks. This is where offenders simply walk in through your unlocked front door even if you are in the house. They tend to be able to get into one or two rooms without being spotted or take you car keys (& car) from the hallway. So please get into the habbit of locking your doors.......!!!!!!

Yeah right, if we all lived in a perfect world and the police did their jobs with a litle bit of consideration for the victim.

I'm sorry?
Or do you know something about the force i don't? You saying he's lying? Grow up. Burglaries are top priority nation wide now with all reported burglaries HAVING to be attended within 30 mins of reporting, if not the cops are in bother. That is FACT! If this has not happened DS needs to ring or visit an inspector at his local station and raise hell instead of going on about it on here. If he is a GP or surgeon he should well be aware of constraints put on emergency services by government. Touch transfer of malice perhaps? Looking for someone to blame? Didn't hear how they got in etc did we, just a straight rant at the cops.
Another home truth, burglars are difficult to catch. If we don't get DNA, fingerprints etc we aint going to get them a lot of the time. And even with DNA etc we don't always have a match because bleeding heart liberals don't want 'big brother' to have their DNA on file!! Rearrange these words ' cake have, it, and your eat' !!
A burglary crime with no leads (a fair few unfortunatley) will sit on file with any evidence until such time as a fingerprint or DNA hit comes along, could be a day, could be years. JUST WHAT ELSE DO YOU WANT US TO DO?
Round up the usual suspects? (Can't do that, big brother again) Stop more people in the streets to search for burglary equipment (again, a no no)
Lets have such answers to what you want us to do and i'll tell you honestly if it is done or if not then why not!!
Chris.

Cheers Chris....... I think that should cover it..!!
Alcazar.
I do try to give a good police/victim contact. Thats why i tend to stay with the victim until there is nothing else i can do for them - and even then i always give a contact number for them.
Paulr
I would say they are now a must have. Burglars don't want to bring attention to themselves. If you get an alarm - make sure you use it. Get any out building put onto the system and use it when you go to bed. Also use a detector on the front door so that it bleeps when ever it is opened. Most burglaries are walk-ins through the front door

Best thing to do is to speak to your crime prevention officer. He will have all the up-to-date stuff and will probably have a lot of discounts for you.
Best tip is to look at your house and ask yourself. If you lost your key and needed to be in, what would you do..?
Grow prikly things over fences (burglars won't risk leaving DNA).
Anti vandal paint on high drain pipes (burglars only have one set of clothes - as the police have most of their others)
Keep your doors locked even if your in
Keep car keys well away from front door letterboxes
Make a list of all your wallet/purse content (cards etc). It will be easier to cancell them if ypu loose it
Make a list of all your expenses items (serial & model numbers). Take photos of precious jewellery and orniments. The police do a lot of house raids and find loads of stolen stuff. But we have difficulty returning it back to their owners unless we have serial numbers or the property is marked in some way.
keep wheelie bins round the back. They are used a lot to climb on and to store stolen property.
Consider bricking up garage windows if you don't need them.
use timer switches when you are out.
Try to make your property less inviting to a burglar than others in your area
These are a few of the top of my head

Okay,cheers.
One thing in our favour is we live in a semi and on the other side is a retired couple who often potter around the garden, and we have a very low adjoining fence.
