I regret it all the time
The only thing I like it for is that I can overtake 3 cars following a cotton bud in a Micra doing 30mph in a 60mph limit all in one go (if the need arises - often does these days ) without breaking a sweat.
Oh and pulling away from standstill in a hurry (as long as I've made sure the boost has built up before moving away...annoying ).
Everything else is a bit of a let down really - just an very very average saloon car with a turbo strapped on and lots of traction. Perhaps I expected too much? Just too many flaws in the handling, braking, feel and driving experience to be "that" enjoyable, which at the inflated prices aftermarket specialists charge for parts, I have no wish to throw money at it to fix it and sort out properly, on what is already an expensive car to run.

Oh and I did use it as a weekend car for several years after I purchased a few runabouts to use for the daily commute.
The result: Scoob never got used at all. It did about 1500miles in the space of 2 years. I'm kicking myself now, as I should have sold it back then when it was still worth a few bob - worth eff all now, so there's no point selling it.

now the bad points
-its does 17mpg everywhere
I get 21
-its going to take my liscense away from me
But not mine from me
-the seats dont grip you enough
yes they do
-theyre far too heavy and you really feel it sometimes
No its not.
-which also means the power-to-weight os rubbish so straight line speed is aweful
Aero limits the top speed which is easily high enough for todays roads.
-brakes arent exactly excellant
Mine are fine
-the abs cuts in too early
Agree
-it understeers like a b*stard (i know this can be fixed) which makes its constant switching of handling from front to rear grip means its off putting
Agree, needs a lot of effort to kill, My GT4 was better balanced naturally, but the STi would slaughter it.
-The steering wheel is to big
?
-The wheels are aweful
?
-And the fooking doors are too easily dented hence why im writing this!
Hum.
Though, your point about buying a quick but older car that you care less about and can enjoy more is a good point. Could thrash the hell out of my GT4, leave it anywhere, and not worry about it ever.
Otherwise, no, no regrets.

After that, you park up, let it cool down and reflect on the fact that you've just taken a challenging route at speeds you wouldn't dream of in most other cars. Then you walk away, listening to it tick and ping, you look over your shoulder and just know that you could not settle for less ever again.

Yep, I regret that fact I thought a MY05 would be (when modded) as much fun as my modded MY00 back in 2000, and I was very wrong.
My MY05 WRX SL PPP wagon is no longer exciting. On the 'Ring it was fantastic, but the Ring is a few hundred miles and a ferry ride away. Otheriwse, it drinks fuel like nothing else, it rattles in a few places it shoudn't, the interior is still pretty aweful, the ride quality is good but not great, the interior space is totally shocking (why I thought it would be different I don;t know) and it just fails to excite me like other cars have done. It will be going soon as it's just not worth it.
Oh, and the depreciation because of Subaru's ridiculous selling and promotional tactics means it's value sinks quicker than George Galloways popularity, and not many cars lose as much as a Scooby!

I know the newages handle well out of the box, and even better with about£500 of mods. I personally think the newage is too heavy, too refined and not fast enough compared to a classic STi. A rally car rep should not be refined IMO

Ok good points!
-It handles really well on the back roads for the grin factor!
-sounds good
-gets lots of positive attention
-looks really good (for me anyway)

just a rant cos the girlfriend just thinks its 'a nice colour'
is anyone else dissappointed? Wish they'd bought something else? or can add to thelists above?
id wish i'd bought a classic sti something i didnt mine denting, something a bit quicker in a straight line, for less money and used it only for weekends i.e. like bikers do on a sunday morning, and bought myself a diesel barge for the daily commute

just sell it if your not happy and buy a diesel...i cant understand the way people complain about fuel consumption on scoobs.you hardly thought you were going to get 40 miles to the gallon when you bought it.i drive mine everyday to work and everything and i dont know what the fuss is about.its not to bad for the performance your getting in return..you should try an evo out on juice if you think the scoob is bad.

A little ditty.
I've had the pleasure of owning a my99 Turbo for the past two years and covered around 30k in that time.I've loved the whole experience from day one to the present. Why?Because in all that time i've had a permanently goofy grin on my face after a spin and the whole experience of owning the car has been a joy. It was serviced regularly and i replaced the clutch at 70k and besides a few blown light bulbs it's never failed a day so far which is more than i can say about previous cars that were all bought new and gave nothing but trouble eg. Punto HGT that fell apart,L200 that blew it's Turbo twice and my first car,now go easy lads i was young and yes i bought into the same make again, a Cinquecento Sporting that embaressed me one night at just 3 mths old by dropping it's passenger door on my girlfriends foot a she was trying to get in.Smooth eh?.
So as for regrets? Fiats most definitely.Impreza,i can only hope that i have as much fun in my next car.

My two pennith...
In order of ownwership:-
My99 Classic.. Fantastic car. Still had the Q car thing, light, good feel, fast, comfortable. 2.5 Years ownership. Company car, trackdays etc.
STi Type UK... Horrible, No low driveability, uncomofortable, Boy racer-come and steal me style, crappy front diff that tugged the car into a corner (faster-yes, but entertaining - NO!) 6 months ownership. Company Car, 1 Trackday -bored to hell..
Merc C Class diesel - Great car still have it for the wife. No trackdays.
My05 WRX SL PPP - Current Car, A bit more comfort than the Classic, Same power as the Sti, Real world conditions (on the road) faster than the Sti. (Flame suit on) discrete (in Crystal Grey anyway) 1 Years ownership so far, company car, 1 Trackday so far (warped disks), saving for a Porsch / Audi RS4...

know wot u mean abt not liking the scoob. myns a 03 sti ppp thats been dyno'd at 316bhp
ive only had it for 3 months and my previous car was a 12month old e46 M3 with every toy. now that was a perfect car. but for financial reason i had to sell it .
so thats why i bought my sti. and your right they do have many flaws but for the money what can you replace it with that gives you this much fun.
and i must admit i now love it and am hooked on the scooby thing

For those who have problem a with then ABS, I fixed mine..(well improved it vastly)...I switched to back to stock spec brake pads (well, stock Jurid Front and Unipart rear). I just drive in such manner that I avoid cooking them now
Might be food for thought if you've fettled with the brakes.
