He's called Oscar - must be the most unsuitable name for a dog I've heard. He is a great laugh though. We used to have Bullmastiffs but must admit the personality on the Frenchie is great. Here's a nice picture

Breed standards for Rotts are also there to promote heath, good bone structure, strong joints, and the correct temprament.
In fairness, its only in the last 5 years or so that the various Kennel Clubs have cottoned on to this.
Socialisation is up to the owner. Nothing to do with breeding.
For the record - I hate the whole "show scene" its more about who you know than how good the dog is.
As for Tiggs' "chimp" comments..LOL...training them keeps their minds occupied, and for many breeds removes the boredom that can lead to all manner of problems. Of course, having a thick as **** EBT and lurchers that are happy to do nothing all day means he would not be aware of that.

Poodles are good for people with allergies..but their hair needs to be 'styled' and regularly groomed - so it would cost you a bit. Apparently they only need a walk and a play session each day not exactly a running dog and you would look like a bit of nancy with a girlie poodle
Brendan...I have heard they can be really nasty, but all I can find is reports that they are good with kids but can bark excessively.
Minature poodles, on the other hand, can be nervous and aggressive, and have been known to bite as a result of over pampering..

This has taken off again! Mind you, I should have known that it would seeing as it's a working day, and none of you lot do any! 
I guess I should try and qualify the "I'm not a dog lover" statement. It's kinda like me saying I don't like kids, but were we to have one (heaven forbid!!
) then I'm pretty darned sure I'd love it. Anyway, this can all be blamed on Cerys, the in-law's dog. If it wasn't for her being so lovely I'd never have considered one!We've decided on a lurcher so are in the process of reading up on them and seeing where we could get one from. It looks like it'll most likely be a rescue one, pref. a puppy, perhaps up to two years old if we know the history.
I will obviously keep you posted, but don't expect any cute puppy pics for a little while as we're off on holiday at the end of Feb so won't get one until we're back.

Boxers - love em, well you've got to really. Our 2 are great and yes they have their mad moments but most of the time you wouldn't know they were there.
If you want a good "house" dog that will get on with kids / family members then I would highly recommend them.

I've a 12 week old West Highland Terrier
He is adorable, learns quick...great guard dog (barks at anything that comes to the door) and is very loving
He does however have Razor sharp teeth and picks on the missus a bit LOL
