Cheers for the phot Chris.
I was so worked up about going to the Ring. Especially having played it on GT4 and watching Clarkson et al zooming around on Top Gear. I really wanted to beat Clarkson's time of 9.59.9 and did (just ). I did this on my 7th lap (1st was about 12.45 in the pouring rain). This was the best part of the day with dry lines forming in places, however the rain was starting again at the other end of the circuit so I decided that I'd done my best on that day (already seen a few offs and didn't want to join them).
Was truly chuffed and really made my day at the Ring

during 1st weekend there was timed at 9:45 and got a 9:50 on video which I think would have been faster but i was having to pump the brake pedal to slow down. Comment's from my mate videoing are classic!
oh and went for a lap with a chap in a WR1 going stupidly quickly. He was accelerating in places I was braking!

Clarkson's 9:59 was in a Jag diesel - surely you have to beat that by a way in a Scooby?
I am saying this with no experience of the ring, and don't know whether Clarkson is a good driver or not - I plan to go in the LCR, and plan to beat 10 mins by some way

Clarkson spent 2 days trying to beat 10 mins.I was at the ring with my mate in his 330d bm,he has it chipped so its quite quick.i followed him for a while the went past he came in about 20 secs behind me.
So many variables to acheive a 10 min lap in a scooby on your 1st visit, traffic etc.Remember you have to drive the car home. Its not impossible by no means but i was surprised how taxing it is physically and metally.those dodge vipers come from nowwhereand the m5 ring taxis are even worse!!!
have fun and drive as safe as you can.

I found that as a newbie I was hanging right alot and slowing to let the faster peeps through which obviously slows you down.
With the 'ring knowledge of the track is the biggest thing.
My fastest laps were on the monday when most people had left and I didnt have to spend as much time slowing to let people past, but even then meeting someone slower - especially a coach!!! - can vary the lap times alot whatever your ability/car.
Personally I just love the thing and enjoy driving round it irespective of the time...it's just FUN

There is a turning point when you get quick enough to not have to look in your mirror every 2 seconds. When you get there things start to click into place. The problem is that takes time.
