As an aside ..... would you rather have a pslewis on ScoobyNet ... or not??

Perhaps you have learnt about them by reading this post you created!
Anyway..... a straight through pipe would replace the centre resonator.

Shaun.

They won't allow so much as a non-standard screw, I'm afraid.

Still you gotta declare everything.

And, is it simple to fit? Flanges each end??

Nope if i was to but you one i would have to hit you with it
10 mins to change.
It will release a bit more "burble" but nothing like my "**** head boy racer one"

if you go ahead with it, at worst you'll need a five quid backbox to centre pipe gasket, the other end is on spring bolts.

What a thoroughly NORMAL thread....!! Really hard to believe it was started by "he-who-cannot-be-named"
So far there has been no mention of, let alone derogatory comments, about:
1. gold wheels;
2. mega-expensive oil;
3. fantastic fuel economy;
4. brake pad longevity...

KEEP IT UP

When i last spoke to my insurance i was under the impression that any part which is an extra with the car is still classed as a standard product. aslong as it was supplied by them. eg. sports back box from subaru.... Subaru part... Not aftermarket.

Anyway, I quite fancy a louder backbox (NOT a ******** backbox that rattles windows) one that sounds like the PPP Backbox - that was nice and burbling at idle and low revs. but then exploded (sounded like thunder) when the engine reached about 5000RPM ................
Does the STi standard BackBox sound better than the standard WRX backbox? Is it louder (without being stupid loud)?
AND, do you reckon - as it's got SUBARU stamped on the rear face, the Insurance company would think anything of it? It IS a standard Subaru Exhaust, after all??
What do you think?
Pete

Yes, those exhausts aren't too loud.
H&S do a twin peashooter replica that sounds nicer than the std one....bit naughty though as it's 3rd party.
BUT
I'd argue that the WR sport or STi exhaust are still modifications, albeit Subaru ones, so the insurance might not be happy.

Can hardly believe this has not been mentioned yet - since the back-box is such an easy job to replace (10 mins maybe?) then why not, in the event of an accident, swap it back to standard?
Not that I would advocate deceiving your insurance company of course

Pete,
Have you thought that a more 'open' exhaused may give you a couple of bhp extra, have you realised that this could affect your 'long term' reliability?. it may also be a bit 'free'er' reving, do you think you still have the reaction time to stop it going over 3000 rpm?
Only joshing pete, i think i like my PPP most because of the noise, not because of the perfomance (apart from the better lowdown torque)
Simon
