Then informed me when I came to pick it up that i must have been joking as it was the fastest 325ithey had driven due tho the fact it had a M tech ecu in it and instead of 193bhp it was 260bhp!!
You should have got that map copied! 67bhp increase for remap only on a normally aspirated car

my wife wrote of my 200sx a few years back - over £60k in total loss for the insurance company (she hit a few other cars while spinning round and round )
Insurance company spent 3 mins looking at car - they wouldnt have noticed if i had replaced the steering wheel with a bin lid let alone the ecu map!

The answer, most likely, is no!
Insurance policies are based on absolute disclosure; mods MUST be declared that's all there is to it!

Personally i'd much rather see a bit of concerted effort into catching all the pond scum (including some on here i'll bet good money) who drive around without any insurance, rather than persecuting car enthusiasts via premiums who do a bit of modifying to their cars.

The thing when this topic always comes up is people talk about there best mates brothers cousin, all hear say.
Some people on this thread have said they were refused a pay out because of an air filter...
Please explain, I find that very hard to believe!

The introduction of the ANPR system a few years back, and the associated introduction of insurance details being linked to the PNC mean that literally hundreds of said pondlife are being detected every day whereas before they'd have only been caught if they were stopped and checked.
The unfortunate thing is that the police's hand are tied in terms of what they can do with them....
An on the spot fine of £200 + points has been introduced, but if they haven't bothered to pay their insurance then who'd imagine they'll pay their fine and send their licence in for endorsement...
What we need is to have legislation introduced to allow said car's to be confiscated/scrapped

General Insurance is normally provided based on the proposal. At the point of claim the insurer will check the validity of the claim in order top determine whether to pay out. life assurance is different due to the emotive aspect, however some insurers are beginning to treat both types the same.
It is correct that in the event of a non payout, the 3rd party claim will be paid, however the insurer is likely to attempt to claim back the money from the insured.
My insurer knows about PPP, Mud flaps, Splitter, Tints, Wheels, Tow Bar. Yes even Mud Flaps area modification if they are not standard. Extra cost on the policy, of course not, but why take the risk.

I was told this by the garage owner that mine went into for a quote when damaged. It had happened only 2 weeks before my car was in. Not my mates brothers cousins blah blah blah.

They get 340bhp out of the 3.2 M3 with normally aspirated essentionally it is the same engine. It was a BMW registared car and used to by there marketing dept to convince the press that the 325i was a quick car. The ECU was available as an optional extra in Germany and badged them as M325i The 325i engine is emissioned up to use the same engine in the USA with 193bhp a very lazy engine!

Anything that can be said to improve the performance by however little would have to be declared to keep you on the right side. I think that would include handling too since they may well say that would encourage you to go faster.
As ever it is up to you whether to risk it but you have to bear in mind the downside if you get caught out and how long that might affect you in the future. Insurance for hot cars is getting more difficult these days.
