= 33.33 m/s^2
or about 3.4g

In fact it will tend to have much higher acceleration at lower speeds because aerodynamic drag is significantly less (increasing as it does by the square of the speed).

To hit 100mph (or 44.704 m/s) in 0.86 seconds it would have to accelerate at an average of 5.3g. The figures quoted by frayz look good to me. Just shows how quick those drag monster accelerate hey?
I stand corrected, sorry

These cars compete in a 1/4 mile (0.4 km) race and complete it in less than 4.5 seconds at upwards of 330 mph (530 km/h). Top Fuel dragsters are the fastest linear accelerating vehicles in the world. A Top Fuel dragster accelerates from 0 to 100 mph (160 km/h) in less than 0.8 second, almost 11 seconds quicker than it takes a production Porsche 911 Turbo to reach the same speed. They can exceed 280 mph (450 km/h) in just 660 feet (0.2 km).

But would they be as fast as a Peroudia Nippa around Morrisons car park It's all relative. If you need speed for a specific purpose then extreme engineering can isolate a machine for solely that task, at the cost of its usefullness in any other situation. To the average man on the street, a car that is fast in as many circumstances as possible is what's required and hence why we have Scoobs and Evo's et al. Faster than a Nippa around the car park, faster than a Ferrari on a B-road and faster than a drag car everywhere except on a dragstrip. Minimal compromise.

Can't wait now to get the Atom... On a cool night when i was alone and giving it the beans in my old Sti (1/4 in 13.01 so a reasonably quick car), i used to think,,,, jeez this thing shifts, even when i was used to it...! The Atom should be in another league... the scoob was quick off the line but the gap from 60 to 100 was over 7 seconds! the Atom does this in 3... we'll soon see how much of this i can use on the road... But it is quicker than a gixer100 to 60 and 1 second slower to 100 ( the standard car that is) I'm in for a few lets say..... Tweaks! so i recon around the same time to 100... The fastest thing i've riden was my mates old gsxr 11 with a yosh pipe and 5ks worth of engine mods but now thats quite a heavy bike... TBH though it felt awsomely quick after my 750, so god knows what its going to feel like in the seated position in the Atom... especialy with just some shades on and a t-shirt...!
I'll be doing some video'ed runs against our scooby clubs cars to see what the difference will will lok for real... you don't normally see this done so it will be interesting with some front and rear mounted cams...!

I have a feeling it won't be as quick over the tops where we used to blast the Scoobs but will soon find out :-0

Depends what you're comparing it with. I'd say in general nowadays, any car that does 0-60 in under 6 and 0-100 in the low teens is fast. Top speed isn't really important at the end of the day, cos who drives around at 150 much anyway? Even when I've driven over in Germany you can only really cruise on the autobahn at a 'sensible' 130-140mph. Any more than that and it starts getting too much like hard work scanning the horizon for possible hazards which, at that speed and above pop up pretty damn quickly right in front of you. And your mpg is ****. And lastly, only young boys actually care what the top speed of a car is. To everyone else it's acceleration and overtaking capability that defines 'fast' I think.

Everyone says about bikes being so fast, yet to my mind they're just as compromised as dragsters. Plenty of times I can think of 'races' I've had with bikers round the back roads and you can be pushing them along the whole time - they're really having to work hard just to keep in front. At the 'Ring, they just seemed to be in people's way the whole time. I'm not a biker, and I've every respect for them, but they don't seem to me to be able to get around corners very well. And btw yes I am a big quarter miling fan so I am fully into mega straightline acceleration.
