Bah, I didnt know there was such a shootout at AVA today or I woulda came along to have a look

Anyways, seein as you lot have been (or will have by the time you read this ) can you tell me this ??

Are AVA any good ?? I posted this on the RS forum and they had nothing but praise for them so I took a drive over. The impression I got wasnt very good.

Examples like not thinking chargecoolers do much for a turbo car, slating the using of a double head gsaket route as a moderate way to lower compression (I know its not perfect but its a proven method for mild lowering) etc didnt leave a great taste.

See, they are only 10 mins drive away so it would be a waste if they are good and I am having to travel miles for a decent place to go.

So.. go on... what do you lot think of AVA, their setup and their experience etc.

Cheers

Rich (another interloper from the MIG board )

They are very good and blowing up their computers the night before a shoot out and not too good at fixing them in a short period !!

Very unfortunate for all concerned

Cool

my day....

Up at 5.30am to travel from Aberdeen to Glasgow, had a good (and fast!!) run down.

Stood about in the freeeeeeezing cold for nearly 3 hours at AVA, then got told that it was all off (cos the comuter was broke)

All was not lost though, had a great 5 hour drive back upto Aberdeen via the backroads up Loch Lomond, Loch Tay, Pitlochry, up Glenshee, Braemar and Banchory

"Credit Where It's Due" A statement that I believe in.

<SARCASM><FANTASY> The panic which followed the crashing of AVA's computer today and the subsequent all out effort to get things working again was well executed and all repairs were carried out with minimal interuption to our fun. </FANTASY></SARCASM>

Was it only me, or did anyone else notice the AVA engineers breaking sweat today ?

The only things worthy of credit today were the cars and owners who turned up from all over Scotland, The camera crew from Japanese Performance Magazine and the jobsworth from the airport authority.

AVA Get Your Act Together !!!!

Dougie,

Nice car !!

I was driving the Black R33GTS25t Skyline, the slim-line one with the over-active proxy sensor and the non-steroid arches and spoiler.

Erm - not much I can say really.

I too feel let down and annoyed that you were not able to see the setup in action. I wasnt there as I was booked onto an offshore survival course on the friday and never thought it would run over the weekend - it did and I'm still up here in aberdeen using a friends computer after a job interview.

Sorry that you all put the time and effort - and petrol costs into making it to the day - when I phoned to see how it was going I was gutted. The reason they could do nothing was that the computer runs a specially built board that have fugged up and there was no way fix it on the day.
I heard they offered free run ups to all that turned up to run on the day as it was the most they could possible offer - no amount off running about of elbow grease would have fixed it on the day unfortunately.

Sorry folks

If no amount of elbow grease was going to fix it on the day, then why did they not come clean at the outset, rather than telling people they were trying to get it going ?

cheers pete - got course completed then a job on tuesday - I'm over the moon

The night before the board on the 4wd computer broke - I dont know exactly why but I know the specialist parts were not available - this is where they then went to converting the software for the 2wd rollers to the 4wd setup. George was up all night but just never had the time to get the job done even after staying in all night to work on it to get it preped for the shootout.

Everything was tried but it was just a **** up at the worse possible moment.

I do know why you feel pissed off - we once preped 2 cars with over £1000 of worth only around going to a topspeed shootout for a magazine - we drove through the night to get there only to find there was a booking mix up and the shootout wasnt on. It was only 400miles worth of petrol in 2 cars wasted etc so I do know how you feel.
We still managed to understand and have since worked with the magazine for other features and I hope you wont let it hang over AVA too badly.
I would urge you take up you free sessions offered as all I wanted was for you to go to the shootout and be gobsmacked by the setup as it is the best cooling etc I have ever expirenced and I have been to many venues.

Hi Martin,

I popped up on Sat, to have a look.
I have to say that the ventilation system layout was very poor, it was much better when it came out of Storm, but then I would say that as I designed it originally

LOL! True you would

Sound deadening in storm was mental! being in the back of the workshop it would have to be. AVA already have the bigger "turbos" on the otherside of the fence so dont think noise pollution is of such a prob.

nightmare for all concerned,

i know that alan and george were their ALL night trying to fix/reprogram the system. Putting all efforts possible to fix the system on time. Its a real pain in the bot when electronics breakdown as it leaves u seriously in the lurch. I even offered to drive home and bring my pc for the butchuring bit it wouldnt have had the bits required.

All those offered a free run up should take it up and see how they get on. No-one got a chance to see the fancy cooling device specifically made for cooling subaru/gtir intercoolers. I did and was impressed with the ingenuity. and the hell of a blow job it gave... erm u know what i mean.

anyhows

Go take up the free run it was the best that could be done on the day. I still 100% swear by them and my car has proven it over and over and over again.

cheers
