I dont see what's wrong with using the ashtray. After all, once it's full you can just empty it out at the most convenient place of natural beauty

Do roll ups count? They're biodegradable, much better that 90% of the crap that goes into landfill.

I flick 'em out of the window, what's the problem?

I don't just let them drift; I know where they're going. If someone's coming the other way I make sure it doesn't hit their car.

Only time this differs is if I'm really pi$$ed off at some idiot who's been tailgating me for long enough that I know brake lights and windscreen washer application isn't working. Doesn't happen much, only once as I recall and that was an f-off great truck when I was in a line of traffic and all I could see was his grill in my rear-view. Dog end stuck in said grill made me laugh!

Oh, and all the 'selfish' comments? Glass house stone throwers the lot of you, or do you never drive a car which is bad for the environment??

I started this thread cause i care about my hard earned and cherished car - not Chavers at bus stops, the environment or Al Qaeda (i am concerned but this is a scoobynet i'll post my opinions on those somewhere else!).

It's nice to know these all exist and are bigger concerns for some more than others. I was just ranting at the fact that if someone marked my paint with a *** i'd be very angry as it's avoidable, i'm sure you all would be upset if someone keyed your car - a mindless act.

could a discarded cigarette damage your paintwork whilst the vehicle is in motion? i don't think it could. infact you are more likely to get a stone chip on your daily commute

I hear what you're saying, but lets face it, all the usual crap you get hit with from the roads on a day-to-day basis will do more damage than a *** end. Road salt for instance. That said it's a disgusting habit anyway

I have 2 jet washers strapped to the side of my car that clean the salt off constantly so never have that problem, and a jcb bucket on the front to stop stone chips.

But seriously though it's avoidable and unecessay.

And i'm not sure if it would cause damage to the car but if someone flicked one at you in the pub I bet you'd try getting out the way even though it prob wouldn't cause any damage.

Wurzel - i knew i'd get this reaction but it's my opinion and i'm happy to voice it - plus my boss is off so needed a good thread to help me through the day

I've never seen a bit of foam wrapped in paper with a bit of ash on it damage paintwork......

I don't have an ashtray in my new car, I've no idea why, and plus, even when I had an ashtray I never used to use it as it would stink!!!!

I hate spitting, I never throw gum on the floor, and I wouldn't put a cigarette out on a CARPET (some ignorant people about ) but tossing a cigarette out the window........

I must admit, I often close my eyes after I have done this and pray it doesn't damage any property or kill any people, or animals for that matter!

Hate to point this out, but regardless of whether you have (and use) an ashtray in your car, if you smoke in it, it stinks.

Thumbs down

I seem to remember that the main suspect for the tragic fire in the Mont Blance Tunnel was someone who chucked a ***-end out of their car window, said ***-end was then sucked into a lorry's air intake, and set fire to his foam airfilter. Result? Well, a few people lost their lives.

Its just a matter of being mature and responsible enough to consider someone else rather than just yourself really.

Fair enough being worried about damage to your scoob's paint; I looked at mine too hard the other day and it chipped!

As for care and consideration, I hear what you're saying it's just that's often an arguement used by people when it suits them.

How about consideration to others due to environmental damage caused by scoobs? It goes on and on.

Live, let live, and f' em all...

Guy I used to knock around with (long time ago) got one flicked in his crash helmet following the said car, stopped the car and proceeded to smash the guys face in through his open window....

Maybe a bit over the top but no worse than getting hit in the eye with a hot dog end....

one of my lads washed a blokes car, put him into the carwash and then he threw his out the window into the wash before he got to the brushes

lucky i noticed and put the track speed on fast, that will be the quickest £6 he has ever spent

once a week i walk around my site with a litter picker and pick up everybody elses tab ends, i have caught people throwing out the window as they come around the site and i have gave them back
they get quite embarrassed

Oh no, I think you've read it wrong, any adult that can spit on a car must be really hard.

I'm not stunned or repulsed I really want you in my gang.

I didnt read it wrong Spoon. I am not claiming to be hard - it makes me feel better - a kind of karma... Those who park in a cycle lane act selfishly and with no care for others, and so I will be selfish when disposing of a natural byproduct of my excercise...

Maybe you secretly fancy me and just want me to keep responding to your splendid splendid posts...Unfortunately I will say no more about my phlegm adminstration, suffice to say should you ever park up on a cycle lane and come back to a scooby that looks like its been dipped in a gunge tank, it may have been me so drop me a line if it happens and we'll have a chat

This makes me laugh really...

Uproar over people flicking their butt ends out of windows. I've flicked hundreds of cig ends out the window (going to quit soon by the way) and can put my hand on my heart and say that i've never caused damage to anyone elses vehicle or otherwise interferred with anyone elses jounery.

Whatever next.

The ashtray in my car's for locking wheel nut socket, loose change etc. Not all at once tho. Tabs get slung out the window.
