People have been flicking cigarette butts out of moving vehicles since 1908.
The media and the government have made smoking socially unacceptable only very recently. It was hardly any time at all, in the grand scheme of things, when people were smoking on public transport (we all know why this stopped, no reason for people to point that out!) in cinemas, on airplanes, and even more recently on trains.
Nobody batted an eyelid. Now people think throwing cigarette butts onto the street is "disrespectful" and is the same as throwing food wrappers or drink containers out of the car.
Let's have a proper thread about the people who throw Maccy D wrappers out at the lights!
P.S I haven't had my first cigarette of the day yet, so may be getting a little edgy. I will probably wait until I'm in the car to have it!

I cant wait until they ban smoking in public places. I will point and laugh when I see smokers having to scurry into a smoking zone to feed their vile disgusting habbit away from clean folk, whilst paying well over the odds to do it.
Why anyone with a sane mind who smokes is well beyond me, it stinks, turns your teeth and fingers yellow, makes you smell and damages your health.
Read it smokers, you pay to do all the above. You foolish foolsih people.

Much to my daughter's annoyance I lit a *** when driving her somewhere in her Ford Ka recently.
"Where's the ashtray I asked innocently?". "Doesn't have one" was the sullen reply. News to me and I don't recall ever being in a car before without an ashtray?? So the window it was I'm afraid. I did look for crippled old lady or mother and child carrying petrol can but no luck there either

- I can afford cigarettes quite easily so the financial implications are nothing
- You will never ever experience the feeling of lighting a smoke up after you've A just had mind blowing sex B had a truely exceptional meal C just finshed fitting your performance exhaust / fast road camshaft/ ~insert the most complicated mod you've done yourself~
- Another thing is that smokers pay the equivalent in tax to have about 3 lung transplants throughout their smoking lifetime so when people say smokers cost the NHS a sh1tload its not like its your money we're spending. Tell me another thing where are you going to make up the Millions of pounds the government is going to lose when smoking is eventually banned because as I've said tax from cigarettes covers far far far more than the health service costs it generates

Personally I don't like it - which is why I voiced my opinion. One day if something does hit your car and you think "well prob no damage" but then find out later there is I'm sure you wouldn't be best pleased but hey your right, it's up to you. Throwing butt ends, or anything for that matter out of car windows shows a lack of respect. I don't like it!

A cigarette isn't going to damage another car anyway even if it comes into contact with the paint for a split second - bit like moving your finger through a flame - won't burn because it's too fast.
Anybody who flicks their tab end out the window close enough to another car such that it hits it is showing a lack of awarness at the very least - but I've never seen it happen.
How can you get worked up about this when you car get's hit by stones etc every time you drive it anyway.

For cars without ashtrays - do you throw ur butts out of your front room window or have you bought some sort of "special device" to stub them into?
It's not going to stop - I know that but everyone likes a healthy debate and as it seems to happen a lot i thought i'd express my concern.
