depends how you'd class 'racing' i guess...

i call it having a 'play', basically judging who has the quicker car with a stamp on the loud pedal...

not in built up areas and not when the roads are busy though...

Racing on the road doesn't really show who has the faster car or who is the better driver. It largely boils down to who bottles first or who takes the biggest risk in order to win whatever the racers percieve to be the prize.

Its nearly always me that bottles first. Usually because the car I'm following does something I think is dangerous and its time to stop before one of us or someone gets hurt.

If you are going to race on a road, don't be the lead car. Its the lead car that has to take the biggest risks.

Thats what I like to call it, and theres rules to playing:

1. Never in built up areas, or where roads are very narrow.

2. When the other driver has nothing to lose if his £200 car gets a bang.

3. Never when the road is really busy

4. And when road conditions are bad.

Other then that a big straight double laned dual carrigeway, with perfect weather conditions and not many cars is good enough.

In what way?

Its the car in front that doesn't know whats coming. The car behind at least gets some idea of the road ahead.

Rather a loser than end up embedded in another car

Default tear around...

we all do ... lets be honest.
U do NOT buy a scoob to poodle around in.
Correct me if i'm wrong.

Most scoob owners buy the car becuse they know it's potential.

We all give it some well, hopefully when the environment we are in is suitable to do so.

No need to suggest when this is the case, it just comes with age (if only I had known then what i do now..).

I think a lot of people don't even know how to distinguish between making progress on their own (classed as speeding if exceeding the speed limit!) and speeding in the presence of a mate where it's quite probable that one has been designated to lead on a particular route and the other(s) has no intention of over taking aka going on a run.

If you are all voting to say you openly accept invitations from complete strangers and constantly try to pass each other in order to prove you are are a better driver then you should be ashamed of yourselves as you are as guilty as the Subaru driver convicted of the MG driver's death.

I used to go on organised runs where a route was pre-planned to a lunch stop with a different route home with a pre-set running order and broken up into small groups to avoid bunching. The Law will probably still class that as racing but no overtaking of each other was the gentlemans agreement.

I have since come to realise that the car we all own is boring at legal speeds and so get my fix on a trackday. Yes they cost £100 to enter but someone has to pay for the marshalls, and venue hire, etc. The arguement about fuel costs, tyres and broken parts I read earlier is nonsense...do you not use fuel and wear parts out when you drive on a normal road?! And as for insurance, if you feel the need for it, you have the option to take out track day cover either with your existing broker or specialists.

There are alternative, resist the red mist! and play safe

Never have and never will race on a public road.

That`s what Santa Pod`s for.

Racing on a public road is pathetic and shows the drivers lack of care for those around them.

I agree with u on that. I think everyone that has owned a scooby has been involved in a "race" at some point, but they choose a different description to cover up.
We all know its a stupid thing to do but then its not like we go through life without doing something stupid at some point.

The worst thing is you don't know the other person you're
'racing'
This happened to me last week. I was driving up a dual-carriage way that I know very well at night on the inside lane & a Merc S500
over took me. I thought I would see if I coud keep up.I was just interested in comparing my car to the big powerful Merc & had no intention of overtaking him.
I just stayed on the inside a couple of car lengths behind him ,he was still in the outside lane and accelerating smoothly.I guess we were reaching about 80 mph
when he decided to brake suddenly & swerve into the inside lane in front of me!!! I have no doubt this was a diliberate manouver on his part as the road was clear ahead.

I guess he just got peed of that a mere Jap saloon had the temerity to even attempt to keep up with him. What a tw@t!

Just remember it's not just your car or your ability that count. You have no control on what the other driver will do.Take care there are some right morons/pschycopaths out there.

You lot do realise that Paulwrxboro is in fact an alias of Sir Ian Blair.
He will now apply to SN for the e mail addresses of all those naughty voters and bang you up. Your Scooby will be crushed and you will serve 5 years with "Big" Vern as his Poodle.
Seriously - why the poll, what use does it serve and what are you going to do with the findings?
Remember Big brother is watching you and SN!!

Oh it is, they been known to use laser cameras. Some weeks they are never there, then another week they'll be there every day and have a good blitz. You can't second guess the pold round here. But it'll probably be quieter at the moment as they'll be toying with drivers using the new traffic managment on teh M42 Just Keep them peeled.
