Got to agree with bubba here - he's got a rapier of a point...

Personally i think its quite simple...
If you can afford it then you buy the best (silkolene pro s) if you carnt afford it then just buy the cheap halfords or comma crap.
End of.

Peter did you read that bit on the AMSOIL site about the mack truck running on AMSOIL that did 400,000 miles without an oil change. They stripped it down and found very little wear...
Not being funny here but I really would have thought that idea would have appealed to you..
Under those terms seems like 'good value for money' over the long run....
Did you read any of the articles on that site I posted?

Pete,
If you have an intellegent response to what Mr Rowland has written then post your questions, I will ask him to respond to you.
You never know, you might just learn something
But then again as you are the resident oil expert you might not
Good night
Cheers
Simon

It states a 25,000mile change cycle on the AMSOIL website but did not specifically identify the change cycle for 'extreme' use - so why not ask the vendor for his opinion and balance it with your own findings ?

I haven't seen a choke of any remote description in a modern fuel injection engine, have you?
Surely you must be referring to the enrichment circuit / program ?
Steve.

I don't recall ever buying anything from a salesman. However, I have been a trained technical salesman, and worked for my self so have some experience in sales. I just found that my consience conflicted with my business
requirements so went back into a profession where it had no real bearing.
1. I indeed do as much research as I can find time for when expensive or important purchases are looming. Groups such as these have a wealth of info once you sort out the obvious 'chaff'.
2. Never seen a Subaru brochure until recently. Bought my car used from a pal at work as I calculated it to be good value / good fun. Had some spare wonga and missed the bike - so it looked like a good purchase (it was!)
3. Just buying another house as it happens. No estate agents, buying from a builder with a good rep. Oddly enough we sold the last house privately too. I have never employed an estate agent. Why would you these days?
I don't need to ask you any such in depth questions as I can extract all I need to know about you from you posts on here. (trained salesman, you see.)

"Will using this Comma Semi-Synthetic oil (Link below) have any detrimental effect on my Subaru Impreza Turbo Engine, manufactured in the year 2000 and used for normal road use?"

All I require is a YES or NO ..................... NOT maybe, or possibly - YEs or NO!
I do NOT want to hear sales patter like, "WEll, of course, we recommend you use what we think is a better oil, because we think it will be better for you!!!
I want FACTS .... NOT salestalk .... YES or NO??
If the Oil will NOT damage my engine in anyway then I will continue to save money and use it ............ if it WILL damage my engine then I want to know and I will take it up with COMMA immediately!!

Pete, I don't know why the confusion..
minimum spec oil - minimum spec protection. (cheaper)
Higher spec oil - higher spec protection. (more expensive)
Do you have this same problem in the supermarkets - buying blue label Tesco's Concentrated Orange Juice and convincing yourself it's not bitter or acidic and that the other stuff with the 'juicy bits' in it is some vile marketing ploy to extract money..
Do you use comma oil in your weapons of mass destruction ?

Pete you are on stunning form, you are one individual gentleman. The analogy of the camping tent was a testament to your sheer brilliance.
On a more serious note... Oilman IS a salesman, but that doesn't mean what hes selling has no place in your car.
On one hand PSL has made some good points.
On the other the tyres size recommended for my vehicle are 225/45/ZR17. I could use some tatty rubber made from used condomns (ok cheap tyres is what i mean) and my car wont necessarily come flying off the road either! However there IS better rubber on the market for those who are prepared to pay and you WILL have more grip etc.
I think its certainly possible some of the oils recommended by Simon will provide better protection to a certain extent. Whether or not its enough to justify the extra cost is a difficult matter to prove. I may switch to some Silkolene 5/40 myself upon my next oil change. If I do i'll probably buy it from Oilman because hes a helpful enough guy. Certainly hes making some cash out of it aswell but im not against a chap making a living.
Very funny and informative thread with loads of opinions. Best i've read in a while.
