With regards to performance - from what i can gather the WRX has more bhp per ton than an STi with it being lighter (obviously ) so would a WRX with PPP be pretty evenly matched to an STi with PPP???? - in a straight line anyway.

But yes the brakes did grumble and a new set of disks for the WRX need to be ordered..Oh well, if we must do these things!
As far as the real world, day to day I would still say the WRX is a faster A to B car on most roads. The ride is better, the grip levels high enough and ..wait a minute read the bit above about trackdays... more trusting at the limit.
One other point I have never had a bad incident in the WRX with regards theives or boy racers, in the Sti, twice I had youths try to drive into me in an attempt (i think) to get me out the car, both times I was fortunate to to notice the attention and make a avoiding manouver. The wife wouldn't drive the Sti due to attention but loves the WRX (minus point!).
Again Drive both. look at running costs, look at what driving you do and make your own mind up... I wish I had when I ordered the Sti. I sold it after 6 months and lost £6K.

However in terms of the WRX being a faster a to b car.......Possibly, it depends on the road condition. On a really badly surfaced road the STI can be a bit to stiff, this can give you the impression that you are being thrown all over the place, whereas the WRX just soaks it all u, giving the driver more confidence. Also when i fitted an uprated rear Anti roll bar to my WRX i found the handling to be excellent. The body roll was severally reduced, the ride stiffened a little, but it still rode a lot better than the STI. An excellent comprimise.
In terms of outright performance, i dont think there is much in it between the WRX PPP and STI PPP, there is just not enough power difference. In choosing between the two cars, you should ask yourself, do i want a good all rounder or a slightly more focused but comprimised alternative.
Finally, all the above is true for the MY03/04 cars. The MY05 STI is fantastic in terms of handling and is really in another league to the previous models.

Are we saying that it is better to fit uprated anti roll bars than go down the PD spring route ?

After fitting the whiteline rear anti roll bar and rear solid drop links i was very happy with the handling and felt no need to fit the Prodrive springs. Total cost fitted was about £150.

AST coilovers as fitted to the Litchfield Type 25. Fully height adjustable and 12 position damp adjustable. In combination with adjustable Whiteline ARB's you can tailor the handling characteristics of the car to suit your own driving style, or any specific event. On the road I use setting 2 all 'round, until I head out to the twisties on a spirited run when I move up to between 4 and 7. 8-12 I haven't yet tried but would be more suited to track.

Don't worry about the warranty, only thing it would affect is a claim for a new ARB, and as you have one it's not gonna happen. Fitting an aftermarket ARB will not invalidate the entire warranty, just any claim which can be directly apportioned to the fitting of that part. Rear is easy to do, the front is a bit more involved and better to let someone with a ramp and experience tackle it. I believe Scoobyclinics prices for these parts include fitting

Is this easy to do front and back and are whiteline the best for ARB & links ?

Sorry, but thicko question here
Do the whiteline ARB and links alter the ride height of the car ? I'm interested in a mod that helps the car feel a little more planted but doesn't impact ride quality to badly. However a few time a year I load my WRX to the limit with 4 people, a roof box, and 3/4 mountain bikes off the back, for holidays in europe.
Will the ARB and links alter my ability to carry all this crap about ??
cheers

No, no and no ! Ride height remains unchanged. Ride quality is improved as cornering will be much flatter, but the springs and dampers still soak up the bumps. It will not affect load carrying abilities.

WRX PPP slighty quicker than standard Sti IMHO as it's carrying a lot less weight (-75Gg or 11.5 stone) and I did test both , but I feel the Sti handles better in hard cornering and the rear wing looks great
I thnk also the 15mpg the dealer quoted with the Sti PPP scared me of also.
As others have said drive both.
Driving a Subaru : while you corner hard with poise and grip relaxed in the knowledge you are sane and wise, others around you are sliding sideways towards the nearest lamppost or hedge, thinking oh boy this is going to be expensive to fix!.

After 2 std Classics, 1 with Mods, 1 Std WRX, 2 WRX PPPs, we bought a new STi UK PPP and have never looked back. We'd have been happy to buy the std STi UK, but the PPP was free last Summer as most of you know. Top bargain!
Suspension, steering, gearbox, brakes, grip, handling and performance make it the better car (IMO). My Wife's too. Oh, and it cost £430 to insure fully comp. Less than the renewal quote for the year old WRX PPP.
Cheers

I've owned a:
WRX PPP 02
WRX PPP 03
STi 03 Standard
STi 02 PPP
The best, for me is my current STi PPP, closely followed by the WRX PPP 03. Both lovely driver's cars. WRX PPP must have Prodrive springs, or similar, and ideally uprated pads, Ferodo DS 2500.

back to the start
I test drove the WRXppp and the 04STI and bought the STI, it was more cash but at that time I had it and would have always asked myself why I had not bought the top of the range (apart from WR1) the STI can be modded to PPP or TSL where as the WRXppp is "stuck" at 260bhp and several suspension and brake mod's required to get close.
Anyway as the company I work for (good old BSA going bust yet again) is on its last legs my Black 54 reg STI is up for offers around £16K. 14,000 slow miles, prodrive rearbox, new front tyres and VGC.
