I don't hate them. Do you hate the rain, gravity etc? They are a fact of life and as I see it their way of life and small minded expectations of life are punishment enough for them without having me hating them.
Neither would I seek to offend them by telling them what I think of them without being prompted. I presume we don't have many of them here on scoobynet, I've never encountered any at least.

Rabid you are forcing me to agree with things Tiggs is saying ! Truely you are a sick sick man. Do you really expect X5 drivers to make the effort to argue against your stupidity though or are you just trying to sound like a **** ?

I think it might be becuase they made it good on the road at the sacrifice of lots of its off road ability which makes it a good target for the I hate 4x4 brigade and because it costs up to 60k new and yet there are hundreds and hundreds of them every where you look. This winds up people who can't afford them as a reminder of how many people have more money than them and also winds up people who can afford them as those people had delusions of wealth until they saw that almost every residentaal street in the UK appears to have an X5 parked on it somewhere taking their illusion of being rich and special away.

I think we have learnt lots....
I think the conclusion is X5's are a bit daft and bought by people who are happy to pay extra for whatever their own reasons are.
I think if anyone was forced to own one for a day not many would label it a "bad car"
I think this site, more than anywhere, should understand the idea of buying something not really needed but wanted (roof scoop anyone?)
and on top of all that, i'd rather meet Jade Goody than Rabid.

Agreed with Tiggs.
Interesting to note that, unless I am mistaken, not ONE X5 owner has posted to defend.
Probably at home in the mock Tudor, snuggled next to the good looking wife with big boobies, supping a nice red, blonde haired kids home from private school and in bed...
They should leave her on the settee, go and sit alone in front of a PC and come and justify their purchase on here to odd people like Rabid until their head goes purple.
Oh sorry, am I being stereotypical??

I haven't read all this thread as I really can't be bothered.
I had a Subaru MY00 from brand new, so I used to frequent here alot back in 2000-2002. What stopped me bothering to come here was certain narrowed minded people ie Paul 3446 that consistently post total utter ****e, without having any common knowledge on the subject in the first place.
My wife owns an X5, in fact it's her third one. The main reasons why we have them is because they are excellent cars and don't depreciate much at all, up until a year ago. We've got the 3.0d sport which gives well over 30mpg, now has 260bhp (DMS remap), handles excellently for a tank and has all the creature comforts and safety that very few other cars have. As for build quality, it's way ahead of Mercedes! Even compared to the new ML. I bet I've lost less in depreciation over the past 3 years of ownership, than I would have done if I bought brand new subarus! and they're half the price in the first place.
I bet if Paul was to drive one, he wouldn't admit it, but he would be pleasantly surprised as to how good they are. If they were crap, how do they do so well on all the road tests. He obviously haven't ever read any, otherwise you would see for yourself what testers say!
Yes they are a status symbol to you Paul, but only in the same way a Porsche 996 is to an X5, or an X5 is to a Subaru or a Subaru is to a Golf, and the list goes on. FFS get a life! No doubt the X5 you're having a moan about did the slightest thing wrong ie sticking to a speed limit while you were in a hurry and wanted to overtake or something past the school???
There, an X5 owner has posted. Just a shame the minority spoil it for the rest of you.

Wahey! An X5 owner at last!
So Roscoe, in the eyes of those who pigeonhole you and your good lady (read some of the terms used in this thread: pretty strong words) you are in the small minority of X5 buyers. You and your good lady own an X5 not to pose outside school, but because it is well built, pretty quick, pretty economical, comfortable, has lots of creature comforts, has an excellent safety record, excellent reliability and excellent residuals.
You like the car. You must do, you are on your third. You are adults. You both chose it, because you both wanted one. You earn the money so why not? You didn't want a 5 series estate. Or a Merc. Or a Micra. Or a Honda Insight.
So you settled on an X5.
All very logical and easy to understand in Olly's world of buying cars, and life in general.
But to a proportion of Scoobynetters, this makes you a complete w@nker. Sorry.

Can't be arsed to read to the end (too dull) but.... You're Wrong...!!! On the unclebuck 'Wall of Cool' it is a seriously uncool car. Driven only by ponces and footballers' wives.

Tiggs - You don't know me or my wife. Now how did I possibly guess I was going to get slanted, coming on here again with my comments?
Perhaps I should have stuck to my Subaru just to please the ignorant? I'm afraid it's a case of each to their own. Yes in some peoples minds, X5 owners may be the above. Are Subarus perfect? Does owning one mean you are too?
Every car serves a purpose, hence why I sold my Subaru and bought an Evo. Now maybe I should have started a thread on here saying, should I have looked down my nose everytime I see a Subaru?
I didn't because I'm not ignorant!

Love the picture that was painted of the plastic titty wife and dross filled domestic life as well. Sounds like a vision of hell to me.
4x4 aside the X5 does nothing a 5 series doesn't do better and that's the basis of my argument.

lol nosey git
dont start, he doesnt wear it normally, it was raining outside and we was going to bed when he got back from walkies. Would have been cruel to send him to bed with a wet coat
And I could understand stereotyping me if he had a union jack coat on

Hi All..
Just had to reply to this. i drive neither a BMW or a Sccoby but you lot should be ashamed of yourselves. You are just like those at McDonalds every night. Like I say i havent driven a BM X5 but they must be OK since they sell so many and each to thier own. I have howver driven a Scooby. Oh what do you guys get so excited about? Yes they are fast, very fast, Yes they are easy to drive quickly (hence so many girls like them) but what a distaster the actual car is. I wouldnt be surprised if Subaru also own Kellogs and they are about to start falling out of of packets at the breakfast table.. The material are appauling and its liek sitting in a plastic cup. Really guys, take a look at what your driving. Cheap cheap cheap.

UN-COOL!!!!
No matter how much you try to justify the X5, the owner still has to live with the fact that everywhere they go people nudge each other and say "look at that jumped up w*nker"

errr....no they dont. maybe the owners are lucky enough to live somewhere where people are a bit more open minded.

Of course as the X5's image is sh1te that makes it twice as funny.

If anyone 'seriously' wants to know why an apparently sane and able car enthusiast would choose an X5, then I'll happily answer any questions. I own a 4.8is X5 (my second one) and have owned SUV's of some sort for the past 9 years. I also own an M3 CSL, Mini Cooper S Works, Alpina Roadster and have a 997GT3RS on the way, I've raced 2 stroke karts, been a club racer for 10 years (Porsche and Alfa Romeo), and a capable track day driver for more than 20 years. I've covered many miles in various Imprezas so can appreciate their virtues, but prefer a rear-wheel drive chassis for my main source of fun.
I use my X5 as a family car, average around 19mpg and get between 21 and 27 mpg on longer trips. Worst fuel figure I've ever seen is around 14.5mpg when it's really caned. Performance wise it's around 13 seconds to 100mph and will sit quite happily at just under 160mph on an autobahn. I've owned lots of BMW saloons from 528i to M5 and still find the X5 as the most accomplished of them all. I had the option to replace my first 4.8is with the latest E60 M5, but chose to get another 4.8is because I fits the family car role better and I'd miss the awesome sound it makes and the far better steering system in the X5. I use mine off-road, we always have. Traveling to the Alps and taking single tracks and unmarked roads to explore the regions. Green-laning in the UK is less easy and usually unnecessary, given the number of roads available. The latest X5s are very accomplished off-roaders and are only limited by the choice of tyre fitted.
The 5-series is not a better vehicle, it appeals to a different type of driver, but feels very inert and characterless in comparison. There are many qualities that are in the X5s favour and I cannot see us buying another saloon car, and after 5 years of owning them I couldn't care less what some people 'think' their image is. It's ironic for a subaru impreza forum to throw stones when it comes to image..
