Don't know how mate, i've only driven Mk1's both import and uk version and my knees rub on the steering wheel!

I must admit I was surprised at this comment as I went to look at an X plate 1.8s (uk) and could not get my knee's past the wheel. I'm 6ft5, not sure if an aftermarket steering wheel would help .

V. dissapointed that I couldn't fit - was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss is about.

I understand the attraction, but I prefer my driving experiences to be a bit more visceral. The shove of acceleration, the chatter of an external wastegate, the race car soundtrack, the turning of heads, the fact I get stopped in the street and asked about my car.

I've seen a couple of new MX5's on the road, and I did think that the last shape was better. The new one is bug eyed for a start, not attractive at all.

I hope you find one for a good price and love every minute, but not everyone loves the same things - some people love their modified pile of crap imports, I know I do. I also know mine will leave an MX5 for dead in every department.

Its horses for courses mate. Although i am not the biggest mx5 fan, i have never read a negative road test about this model since its inception fifteen or so years ago. Every model has been highly praised for its simple yet effective front engined rear driven layout. Dont take Pete's comment about modified pile of crap imports personally, I haven't lol. Fact is the mx5 is one of the icons of the last decade along with the impreza. The latest model road tested in a recent autocar magazine proved more fun than a porsche cayman and focus st. By the way Pete if and when you get your mx5 you could shoe horn a v8 into it for even more wind in the hair fun! The Americans have been doing this for years and fret not the chassis is more than able to cope with the extra power.

I guess it's how your limbs are proportioned, plus the fact I'm v.slim probably helps! I've had the same problem with MGF's, Rover 200/25's and a few others. My legs JUST fit around the steering wheel and touch the drivers door handle, maybe a MK3 is a bit bigger? Not as cheap though!

Well, been on a few 100mile jaunts around the South East .... looked in at quite a number of Mazda Dealers and other garages.

All sold out of old shape MX5s!!

Not sure whats happening?? BUT, the new MX5 is available immediately now (in November I was quoted a delivery date of April!!) ....... what appears to be happening is that the new MX5 isn't actually selling in the numbers that Mazda have imported.

Some Internet sites are offering £2000 off a new one .... the Main Dealers must be a little worried on the new sales?

My hunt continues ...... of course I am being choosy as I have a mint MK1 anyway

I think the MX5 is one of those cars that everybody loves to bits. But when your young you would never admit it because of the gay/hairdresser/camp labels you'd be given.

I suppose that when you get over 30 you kinda don't give a **** anymore so are happy to flay down the road in an MX5 having the time of your life looking like a dale winton wannabe.

Absolutely pukka motor though. Agree with lewis (again ... getting scary how much I am agreeing with you these days) on the new sport model. I drove one and was astounded!! But being 23 I still need spoilers, dump valves and flames - and a big car to fit the ego in

Oh, I wouldn't give the Scoobie up!!

The MX5 is just for when the sun shines and when I want some top down fun .... it cannot be beaten in those circumstances!

All of them

The Bronze/Gold ones are sticking ... as are some of the MK2's non-facelift.

But the MK1s are selling as they always have .... seeing as they can be had for £2500-£5000.

Strangely the £10,000+ cars are the ones selling like Hot-Cakes!

The Special Editions are the biggest sellers ... the bog standard late models are sitting around a bit longer, but Sports are selling fast.

Been chasing about now for 3 weeks, in rain and freezing weather ..... they have been selling like hot cakes!!??

Found the perfect one, 50 miles away, in a Vauxhall Garage - when I got there it had been sold!! In 1 day!! I had a look around it as it was getting valeted ...... it was EXACTLY what I wanted!! Even when they crop up in a Vauxhall Dealer they are snapped up!!

Pete

I guess this answers my question. Do you wear pink panties and a frock from M&S secretly by any chance?

[QUOTE=banny sti]I will take happily take your impreza if you are giving it away. Besides Pete aren't you a bit old for these wind in the hair frolics.

The only way Pete is gonna enjoy 'wind in the hair frolics' is to drive around with his arms up.

The Impreza is staying with me at the moment - until the Impreza HatchBack is launched in 2007!!

Those that laugh at the MX5 have NEVER owned one ... they are, without doubt, the best value driving machine available today!!

If that makes me gay, then so be it

read COTY evo 2005,

the new mx-5 got a slating saying mazda have totally ruined the driving experience of the car, although they said it might be because they were supplied a 'bad' one I know they were trying to get another to test, well thats what they put, i believe it came last of the 'real' world cars

local nissan dealer in our village has an 05 with 1600 miles on it up for £11995.00 if anyone's interested - it's an icon with a hardtop whatever that is.
