Talking

Just block off the standard recirc d/v, costs nothing you'll get a lower pitched version of the noise, bit more wear on the turbo (nothing serious) worse fuel economy round town, quicker pick up from feathered throttle.

If you want the full wrc sound then you need 4 bar boost equal length headers and a straight through exh with no silencer and anti-lag, but I wouldn't bother going that far if i were you

I've had anti-lag for about 10k miles with no problems at all (not on permanantly of course) so there

1st mod...... a flame suit if you're going to keep posting on here

Actually an 03 STI has an IHI turbo a vf35 if it's a uk one, don't think they have a 360 degree thrust bearing so maybe it's best not to run with no dv, not heard of them being weak turbos though, i'd give it a go.....

you'll need some sort of cone filter based induction kit (or at least do a snorklectomy) to hear the sound of your turbo stalling.

I've heard of a couple of VF34s breaking from running big boost, no DV and anti-lag, and these have roller bearings rather than divided thrust bearings, like on the vf35.

If you really want the noise, change to an MHI hybrid such as td05-18G/20G, and run DV-less. They're a lot more resistant to that sort of abuse. Plus you'll get a bit more power/torque with a remap.

I really dont wanna go the dv route, i was told ther was a way of making it
chirp without fitting an aftermarket dv[/QUOTE]

I'm sure if you talk to Prodrive the guys there will give you exactly the same sound as the WRC car, if in return you give them a wad load of cash,
Basically you can have what you want if you can afford it, thats why most people on here go for a Bailey dump valve.

I think maybe you should start this thread again and be specific with your request.

Do you want your car to have the wastegate chatter sound
Do you want the banging anti lag sound
Do you want it to sound like its got 600Ib ft of torque

If you're after all of the above, your wasting your time and ours unless you have £50K to buy an ex WRC car.

You own a production road car which has reasonable performance, you dont own a WRC car.

So what you after fella, maybe people can help you.

Probably get the **** taken for this comment but what the F. I am sure i have seen a article in a mag or a thread on a forum that the distinctive noise of a "WRC" Subaru is because they rebuild the engine after each full rally thay dont bother with a dump valve and the noise is due to the turbo stalling. For the road this would cost a bloody fortune as the turbo would not last too long. Think I'm close to what was writtern but who knows I could be totally off the wall

Anti lag keeps the turbo constantly spinning, so can't see it stalling.

Nope not a nutter,

I didnt misread his post, he asked how does he make his car sound like a wrc...

he ommited to state what his car was. Thats why i gave the strange answers,

the punctuation dig, was as the SNPS who troll SN for breach of P, not at you, so appologies on that one

First of all welcome to SN mate and secondly like already stated it depends on what noise your on about? as Gary has already said "Do you want your car to have the wastegate chatter sound
Do you want the banging anti lag sound
Do you want it to sound like its got 600Ib ft of torque"

Either way it seems like its gonna cost you a fortune mate

It's a back flow of air across the compressor wheel, it wouldn't happen if anti-lag kept the turbo spinning fast enough for full boost. but it doesn't so you get the distinctive chirping noise.

Which by the way is neither the wastegate chattering nor the compressor stalling.

Well I would start with Gems management, turbo the size of Russia, thousand cc injectors, parallel fuel rail, antilag, titanium aps race exhaust, rotate the turbo, external waste gate (Tial running on race fuel) That should do it!

Please please don't anyone ever mention 'wastegate chatter' ever again. Who the hell started going on about this mythical noise?

The chirrupping noise that you hear on a throttle-off, is simply the sound of the trapped charge of air between the throttle plate and the compressor wheel being 'chopped up' by the compressor as it expands back the only way it can - back into the turbo. Hence the reason why the sound also has a gradually lowering pitch - because it's gradually slowing down the spin of the compressor wheel - therefore the term 'compressor stall'. In practice it's unlikely to totally stall the compressor, but simply slows it down, so once you're into the next gear and go to put your foot down, it's not spinning at optimum rpm to make full boost straight away. Which is why turbocharged road cars have dump valves - to vent this trapped boost when the throttle is closed.

All that you need to make the sound louder is to let it out somehow. Probably the most practical way is to keep your factory DV and stick an open induction kit on. Mild throttle-offs will produce the chirrupping sound, full-bore banging through the gears shouldn't because the DV will be full open or full closed and compressor stall should hardly happen, although it may still do with a low capacity factory DV.

BTW I don't want to get into a thing about induction kits. I'm just answering the question without making judgements. As a number of people have already said, it would be nice if people could just come on, ask a question and get it answered.

I'd be interested

this is a fact! don't need any money exept for a cone and poss a remap (more boost) this way it will sound a tad louder, BUT if you have a 'phat' zorst just get a d/v

Seriously the only thing you have to do id block off the dv, it's louder if you have an induction kit, which is nice.

If you want a question anwered on scoobynet post in a tech section and you'll get serious answers from knowledgable people, if anything at all, post here, and you get this
