It sounds as your cv needs a bit of work. How about becoming a college lecturer teaching kiddies how to weld?

Default Well that was a waste of time!

Seriously! What a waste of time!

They asked me what i did at my old jobs and what i did at college. Then they told me about the job and went on to say that i didnt have enough experience for it and that it was above my station! The guy ive had two interviews with before was there and he just went through what the job entailed etc. The woman said she didnt think i was experienced for it as it was a major role within the company. She said i should consider working in a supermarket :| I was in there for 50 minutes and most of that time was her saying i wasnt up to the job and suggesting alternatives of shop and supermarket work! She said we dont normally say no in an interview.. She never did but i got the hint!

She said, your probably wondering why we're interviewing you if im saying all this! Well actually yeah i was!

They made it up to be a lot more than the job description said and it was a senior clerical position.

She asked if i would consider a temporary junior positon.

On the way out out he said it was a quite a senior technical role and that it pays more money than the CAD job i applied for.

I have been out of work since January too. I have found out some interesting things though and would like to help.

I was watching a program on Channel 5 about interviews and there is a website that fills in your personality profile:

https://www.thomasinternational.net/...ignUp.aspx?s=3

I tried it and it emails you your personal profile. Mine was pretty much spot on but it gives you some good terminology to use in your CV. I have no affiliation to them but this is a regular test administered at interviews.

Most companies want to see your personality come out on your CV and this is a good place to start.

The other thing is that is very easy to be modest about your abilities. Agencies and potential employers don't want that. Sell yourself and think about your biggest accomplishments and then sell yourself on them. Even if you were involved in a team and had marginal input into a project, put it on your CV. Don't lie. Just sell your skills.

If you would like a copy of my CV or my covering letter then please PM me and I will quite happily pass it onto you. You can also email me your CV and I will try to have a look at it. No promises but I have been complemented on my CV and have helped others rewrite their CV's with good results.

Anyway, bottom line is good luck. Don't lose hope and I am sure you will look back on all this in amusement in six months!

I know the owner of an agency who specializes in this area and they are always desperate for inspectors. It has reached a point now where they part finance the training for new inspectors so all you will pay for is the exams you take. It fits your experience and you should earn 800 a week before tax.

Just tried that profile thing, will get rerport back in a bit. Some of the areas in the 'least' box didn't really apply on some points.

I was a Fabricator/Welder but after 8 years id had enough and im now looking for office work. Most places want experience. But how can i get experience if no one will employ me?!!

Im seriously thinking of going back to college in september, but its only febuary now!
Sorry to hear of your bad fortune mate. I hope your luck turns around. Regrettably, we're living in a society where, no matter how skilled you are, and how qualified you may be, or how much experience you bring to the table, you can struggle to find a job. The important thing is to keep your chin up and keep trying. Believe me, I know how demoralising it can be. I left Uni with a Degree, a PhD and work experience and still struggled to find a job. It's really soul destroying to know you have the skills and then be told that because some oik in HR -that probably scraped a 2:2- didn't think your profile on some tired psychometric test didn't fit, you're not getting the job!

However, stick with it, and you'll get something good! A good tip for interviews, sell yourself, but don't forget to project you're the kind of person people would like to have around; it's easy to get caught up in the "selling yourself game" and come across as competent, efficient, but a bit of an a-hole!

All the best,

Ns04

The company that do that questionnaire sell that questionnaire to employers for a LOT of money. They are industry recognised and at one of my interviews recently I talked to the potential employer about the fact that I had already seen the test. They have a very good reputation and I guess that is why they are on TV.

From a personal view though it can give you some good catchphrases to put on your CV and call also be used as a starting point for a conversation about yourself if you don't know what your key skills are.

It definitely taught me a little about myself and I try to read it before I go to an interview so I have something to focus on. We have always had the questions about "What are your best skills?" etc and this can certainly help you answer those questions.

Default Update!

I phoned Job Seekers this morning and it appears they sent my claim to another department because there was such a back log. Im told once they find it they will phone me back and let me know whats happening.

Regarding my Benefit claim i cant get through, although im expecting the same answer.

Now the strange bit!

Ive just been offered the above job i had the interview for on wedneday! Albeit in a junior position on a trial period of 2 weeks. Ill be starting tuesday though as im still having eye treatment! Then thursday off as im suing my previous employer lol.

So if thats how they interivew people theyre giving the job to, god help the bad ones!

As im in employment for 2 weeks i take it i need to inform the job centre of change of circumstance?

Yes you do, but as long as no other circumstances have changed it should be a rapid reclaim, so only one call and another interview booked.
