Was up there too yesterday, and like so many had a good time
Ended up with 268bhp/271lbs torque. Not bad for a standard WRX with 3" Milttek exhaust system
The journey home was very exciting
Good to see you too duSTI...hope your trip home was quicker

Hi,

I've got a standard (apart from backbox) 2005 WRX - I'm considering getting it upgraded, but dont really want to blow 1600 quid on PPP. What's your view on having a remap without any addditional mods - don't want a decat etc...

What increase in bhp / torque can I expect & is it worth it?

Cheers

Not really worth it I would say, you really need a decat to make the best of it. You would probably see 240bhp max.

Cheers for organising the group buy - I had mine done last Thursday - wow!

I'm using an APS 3" turbo back system with sports cat and a green cotton air filter.

Headline figures probably weren't quite as high as I was expecting (260bhp & 270lb/ft torque) - despite fitting a 3 stage boost solenoid - probably because it was nearly 27 degrees in the dyno - but the car is soooooooo smooth now. 80% of that torque peak is available from 3-6,500rpm and it REALLY accelerates with some violence in any gear. 70 to (ahem) very high speeds in 5th pushes you back in the seat ..... so no need to change down so often.

According to Rich - the up-pipe is now holding it back - and changing this will probably get me another 10bhp and a similar amount of torque - but this is at the absolute limit of the turbo - so the next step is a VF34 .....
310bhp here we come!!!

Mark.

Yep, that'll do it! Those are still good figures though, and as you said, it's the bum dyno that counts!

Agreed - good torque there, a lot of dyno results the torque is a fair bit lower than the bhp.

For the bum dyno torque needs to up with the bhp imo - certainly works for me!

The smoothness is what still impresses me a month after having mine done. I remember Rich tweaking to smooth out the curve as the last thing he did, and made a big difference

Jonesy - If my experience is anything to go by - it's worth it just for the added smoothness and throttle response!!!
- I would bet my bottom dollar that you'll be stunned by the difference and as all the standard cars seem to be a bit light on torque - this will make more of a difference than you think!!

Rich (at Powerstation) said to me that they save everyone's individual Map - so if you were to make any additional mods - you can go back again for £90/hr and have your map altered to suit the changes you've made - Bargain!

My advice would be to ring them - they'll honestly tell you whether it's worth doing. Ask for Dirk or Rich and mention the Scoobynet Group buy (especially when paying)!

NS04 / StiX - Absolutely and although the top end isn't as lively as I would like - the acceleration when it comes on boost is quite enough to leave a Boxster S / Golf R32 trailing in your wake!

Even the wife likes the changes and she normally doesn't notice a thing!

Waste of your hard earned money.

Wait, save up and get yourself some part first, fit them, then map it.
Or just bung the whole lot on a credit card

The remap will make it smoother, but you really need to do something with the exhaust to really tap the potential of the remap. The magnex decat downpipe/centre section pipe (about £200) makes a huge difference.

Or go the whole hog and get the Milltek 3" system.

A friend with a 03WRX had this fitted and just a KN panel filter, and Rich mapped it to 280/275. And it goes like STINK

ecutek will void the warranty if you didnt know already - balance the cheaper cost of this versus PPP (about £1k) and make your mind up as to which you prefer.

Great to hear all these success stories! I myself was on this group buy with my MY03 WRX saloon but had to pull out for family reasons. Those family reasons now mean I own a MY02 WRX Wagon which I like very much but DAMN does it need a remap!!! (it's quite noticeably slower than the 03 saloon)

Lo,

I had my remap this afternoon on my MY00, result was 265bhp & 272lb/ft

Mods, same as STiX;
JR Panel Filter
100cell Sports Cat Downpipe
Magnex resonated centre decat
Magnex 6x4 oval backbox

So after the guys had fitted the exhaust, it was over to the main man,

Rich put in a base Tek3 map from another impreza, to get the initial setup, this gave:

This showed that the car wasn't boosting at best This is a common thing on classics apparently. Look how bad relatively the torque is (307NM = 226lb/ft). So a 3port solenoid was quickly plumbed in,

This gave,

Another good result but with an expensive twist unfortunately Looks like my clutch is on it's way out, and the extra boost, power and torque now lets me know there's a problem Oh well only another £900 for fitting an upgraded Helix clutch The power figures really don't mean much. As said by others it's the on road feel which is key here, and the car is now transformed. Apart from some clutch slip in 5th the car now just surges when on boost in a very smooth way, and christ does it shift now. On the motorway it was so easy to reach stupid speeds, and I had to keep checking my GPS to make sure my speed was actually right. The car is getting to those speeds so much faster than before, fantastic! And acceleration through the gears is surprising to say the least I can't imagine what it's like running 350-450bhp or more that some of the guys on here run, the performance must be nuclear

Anyway another 's up and thanks to Rich and team very professional and patient with my stupid questions. Gotta love the free hot drinks, Playstation, TV and magazines, makes the waiting so much more bearable.

If anyone still has doubts about getting this done, don't, just do it, and then wonder why you didn't get it done earlier
