When you say no boost, do you mean absolutely no boost or some boost but not as expected?
No boost would suggest a wide open wastegate flap, but would still boost to some degree with high air flow, or that an impeller is siezed, resulting in no compression?
Do both wheels spin quite freely and move each other? Is there any bad play in the bearing?

As for the seller, ask him how he knows it was working when despatched and why you were sent an item not shown in the picture.

Why not let him know what you've found out he does.

Maybe you could hint that you hope as he's a trader in all but name he's declaring all this for tax purposes?

Also as he's sold you something that wasn't pictured and misdescribed you could get onto ebay/paypal and your c/c company to claim a refund.

I bought one from grade-A for £250, sent it to turbo dynamics for reconditioning and they charged me around £400 as the seals were buggered and it needed a new core.

got it back in pristine condition with a warranty, but as they sell reconditioned turbos for £670, I only save myself £20 by buying a unchecked one. I really wasn't expecting to have to pay that extra £400 and so i think its best to buy new or reconditioned with turbos.

Funny thing was, after 3 months on the reconditioned turbo it started smoking a lot. I sent it back to turbo dynamics and they sent me back another newly reconditoned turbo for no cost which has been fine for over a year.

They were suspicious as to the cause of damaged seals - looked like oil starvation they said - but the car's oil pump was fine, as was the oil level. I have a couple of ideas why it happened - one includes the fact that my engine was shut of by the turbo-timer while I was doing 90mph on the motorway with a hot turbo and I put the clutch in so the engine stopped straight away with no cool down period!

Sorry, a bit off-topic

Got my car back today with complete new turbo. It made 320/315, so well happy with the results.
As for the turbo, the exhaust side of it is cracked (sorry for the bad description - i'm no mechanic) aroung the wastegate area.
Apparently, with no restrictor in place, it would only make 6psi.
I'm going to contact the seller again with my finding but I don't hold out much hope.
Again, the lads at Scoobyclinic have been fantastic and I can't thank them enough for their help with this.

Hi
We are a business seller om ebay - with over 7000 feedback.
This turbo was advertised as being in immaculate condition - with suggestions as to what it would do for your car.
The seller asked for 4% extra if you paid with PayPal - this is forbidden under Eebay regulations and would get this seller suspended.
To get your money back - log onto PayPal and start an item not as described dispute.
PayPal heavily favour buyers.
Also if he does not play ball - threaten to report him to Ebay for infringing auction rules - if he is suspended and a big seller - this will really hit his pocket.
Do the above immediately - as you will soon run out of time - as he will have time to respond after you make your complaint.
Hope this helps!
Cheers!

Hi Mate

If he has screwed you over like it sounds like he has, and i know how annoying this is, then look at my previous post about the chargeback through your credit card. It works, i should know i have been on the receiving end and it p*sses you off. I cant use E-bay any more cos of the conning little git, so if as everyone else has said he is a big seller on E-bay, this will seriously hack him off.
Its only fair if he has posted a pic of one unit, then sent you another and is not even entertaining helping you out.
Go for it mate, why should you be out of pocket.

I've received an email from the seller offering to re-con/replace the turbo once i've returned the broken one to him for him to investigate.
He does seem genuine in what he says, and to be fair to the guy, I don't think he knew the turbo was faulty.
I've asked whether he'll refund the costs rather than replace the turbo, as a replacement isn't any use to me. I'll let you know what he says...
