if its acheap runabout ,but mental you are after.
have you thought of (DONT LAUGH) a Daihatsu charade gtti.
i had one a few years ago , then traded to Clio 16v for bigger boot.
1.0 3 cylinder turbo .
0-60 was about 7.0 secs 100bhp in a crisp packet , went like ****.
ins grp was 10 i think , really economical and reliable!
about 45 mpg if you kept the green light on dash off

I had actually thought about one of these but seem hard to come by.
Just missed out on a beauty of a mark II the other day, 49K files, FVWSH, all mot's, black, 16v, origial BBS alloys, completely standard and looked lush. Sold the night I made an enquiry Was up for £2995, more than I wanted to spend but for the spec it seemed cheap as chips.
The Mrs hates R5's and said she'll chip in some cash if I buy a golf, LOL

Ah, didnt pay much attention to the adverts themselves. The black one appeared the most original.
Ho-hum, these R5 threads really do take me back to my old motor. 1990 'H' Glacier White R5 GT Turbo. It was an absolute minter and I was the second owner from new. I'd been dry-storing it for a year and a half as I didnt want to sell but moveing out of the parents house and buying my own place with the missus took preference so had to sell it for a stupidly low price at the time. It was standard bar a GT Tuning tubo pipe back system and a Bosche re-circ dump-valve (way before they became "cool"). My old man only said last weekend that I should never had sold it. Apologies for poor pics but they were taken a long time ago.

Aaah the days of the GTToc (Now RTOC) and talk of where to buy a cheap 2.2mm headgasket.
What great money pits these little pocket rockets were, all to try and break that 200bhp mark
I wish id taken some more pictures of mine before I sold it, but I was having too much fun (in short bursts)!
