Agree, 2 lengths at xxx mph is fractions of a second regarding through gear times. But thats all (say) 15 hp/ton difference will produce.
As you say if one got a teeny jump on the other the outcome can be different, and the reason why you get the pub tales of a saxo 'keeping' up with a STi because it 'only' pulled 3 car lengths over 100 yards

BUT
It's an old tale, but a mate who owns an Evo 6 and I (My99) swapped cars for a drive down a B road we know well and we both reached the same conclusion. The Evo was demonstrably quicker in terms of acceleration, and felt much shaper....but it ddn't matter down this stretch of road where the Scooby was noticably quicker irrespective of which of us was driving. The evo felt nervous and you had to back off as the ride was simply too compromised to handle the bumps that the Scooby just dismissed. On track or a smooth road the outcome would have been quite different. Horses for courses. The point being the car with the most outright grip and acceleration does not always win.

Its so so much quicker than my evo VI. You really can see the progression in the evo series cause my sti8 eats my evoVI on dual carriage ways.

My standard EVO V would have been producing ~300 - 310 according to ralliart (much more than the advertised 276). and it felt like it. I did drive an EVO 8 and was so dissapointed after the V that I went for the STi.
I wonder if the EVO's previous owner had modded it but not told me as I was only interested in standard cars ?

Not sure on that one. I know my Evo VI has only a few basic mods and is around 295bhp. Nice drive though and only done 21,000 miles since new Virgin car hehe

I travel about 25 miles to work (and 25 back of course). I leave home at about 8.15 a.m. and get to work, after stopping to pick up my morning paper from the newsagents, around 9.00 a.m. It is difficult for me to tell whether I have arrived the equivalent of two car-lengths earlier one day than another.
My point is, does it really matter?
Enjoy the car you have, or, if you can't, get one that you can.

Good lord. If thats all you use your car for... What a sad waste of all that power.
Nah its all about track days, quarter miles and weekend fun on private air fields boot it boot it and boot it some more. If you only drive it like that why dont you get a normal car? I use 1 of my normal cars for daily driving & scooby & evo for weekends.

Not to side track the thread, but i hope the majority of scoob owners use their power ( responsibly of course) as I couldn't justify the insurance premiums, fuel cost and servicing cost of these motors if i didn't extract all the benefits that a scoob has over your average mondeo or laguna .

I don't mind blowing it up to blow you away......
It's not that I can't drive.......it's the fact that being that bit older........I've kind of grown attatched to my life and when I was younger and did my fair share racing down the hard shoulders and between traffic, there's too much heat to do that anymore....so i've bowed out gracefully......
Doesn't mean I can't drive......it means I choose not to go that crazy anymore.....
BRING IT ON ****** ******!!!

275 is doable, as bob has pretty much done. although im not sure that the turbo youve got is necessarily capable of it every day of the week

at its very very max it may....again all dependant on the million and 1 other components in the mix.....generally they can on the stis, but the WRX doesnt have as agressive cams or rev limit to gain that little bit extra power "normally" a realistic 330-340 is much more likely especially as you dont want to go above 1.4 or 1.45bar.

I'd be quite content with the 330 figure........I'd rather go near the limit than on the limit the whole time.....
thanks for all the continuing help though gents....
They say SN had gone downhill but there are still those who do help

He got the Evo and spent couple grand on brakes, exhaust, remapping, induction etc... and his MR320 is running around 382bhp now. So yes the comparison is basically what can a couple grand in mods get you on each car.
Both same age about 11 months old. Both a hell lot of fun hehe.

why would you want to "blow me away" ( not sure i'll like that any way you interpret your words ) if you dont race? surely that would be racing and for a man who doesn't race your going to blow alot of money for no reason

Twas me in my MR FQ320. Gaz, your car sounds awesome.
Just to clear up some confusion, my mods are induction, VTA, decat and ecutek (induction post ecutek, so probably no benefit). When it was initially mapped it made roughly 362bhp (using 24% t.l)....and on the latest rr day it made 1.1hp more at the wheels....eventually . Torque is the biggy, as Initially it made 501Nm and recently a giant leap to 505Nm . Very happy with how it goes at the moment. The VTA is a bit odd, as the throttle seems over sensitive....may revert back to recirc.
...was a close race, just surprised I didn't beat you by more Gaz lol . Next time!
PaulNorth...If gaz comes to fast show, he'll probably convoy up with us too
