People who have to use bottles, ashtrays and the like are scum in my book......
Even the ones that jump in when I get the better hand......
What happened to the days when you went outside, put the blokes teeth on the curb and went back to finish the pint?......
I had a similar incident in Kos and mine was 10 stitches, stitched by a pi$$ed greek surgeon.....be thankfull that you had proper treatment...

I got bottled once (about 12 yrs ago ). I won't go into the details but the guy stabbed me several times in the back of the head and neck. All I could do was curl up and protect my face with both hands.
Felt awful the next morning. Nurse in the hospital glued up the wounds and covered my head with a big bandage.
I'd stay away from that mate of yours. Sounds like he'll attract more trouble for you in the future. + stay out of bars where youngsters hang out!

Id say you were asking for trouble.
If someone came up to me and said you say you want to fight my mate I wouldnt be a very happy chap. You were basically looking for a confrontation and it happened.

"So I tell him to show me who it is, and I hang around for a few seconds, then I go up to him and politely ask "Did you just ask my mate for a fight?" "
That was a mistake. If he was the type of kn0b who randomly offers out people in clubs, what is going to confront him going to achieve?
Anyone who uses bottles/weapons etc. is an evil coward in my book though.
Hope your head's not too sore!

There's a lot of cowards out there. Was struck from behind at a party a few years back and ended up spending 3 nights in hospital. The annoying thing was I was trying to defuse the situation and had turned to leave. Lesson learned, don't turn your back on the b@stards.
If the police get the moron and charges him, I hope you sue them for personal injury. In my case the police lost the paperwork but a friend advised to make a claim via the CICB anyway and I got a payout about 2 years later.

Like I said, its in my best interests not to fight. But I knew that if I dint try and diffuse it, my mate woulda got himself into more trouble and probably ended up a lot worse.
Still waiting to hear from Police.

You should have left if that was the case. But surely what man says to someone I want to fight you out of nowhere and then goes on about his buisness like nothings wrong. If the man wanted to fight and which he clearly seemed capable of doing as you got a bottle over your head why didnt he punch your mate there and then?

I agree with afroking.....He went over and asked the blokes problem after the bloke already showed an interest.
Better to get the first one in than wait for it......
Fair enough fella, your mate was in the wrong but i've always stood by my mates even if they were in the wrong, to an extent.
So I see where you coming from.
You got a bottle for your troubles but it could have been worse

Think you and your mate are total ****** to be honest. No need for a fight but you just fancied it and got a bottle over the back of the head for your trouble. Shame it wasn't a metal bar.

"did you ask my mate for a fight".....hmmmm, nice way to diffuse the situation.
only ever going to end in trouble and your martial arts were tad useless....good job it wasnt a knife in the ribs.
next time tell your mate to sod off home and sober up.

Sorry bud ,i havent got much sympathy for you.As an experienced martial artist couldnt you read the lads body language which may have given you a few clues?or possibly you could and you thought youd have some fun hoping hed go for you in a more conventional manner and you could show off some of your martial arts skills.I learned a long time ago not to go in half heartedly with losers like this .I think you were pretty lucky really.Youve learned a valuable lesson daniel-san,next time go in hard!

Shame you got bottled, but have to go with half the posters on here who think you should have ignored it.
You say you avoid trouble to keep your credibility, but you weren't trying to avoid it too hard that night, eh? You wanted to look the man in front of your mate and you expected this clown to back off and **** it, or at least give you the chance to show him your moves. It's understandable, and it's natural to a degree.........
Got to say though, what sort of w@nker asks someone for a fight? Was he fourteen?
I haven't been involved in, or near a bar fight since I grew up, TBH.
I'd avoid Yates', and your chippy mate, like the plague in the future!

That's what you get when you fight someone elses battles.
Come to think of it, it wasn't even a battle, just your gobby mate.
Fair enough if your mate was in the middle of a bit of a ruccus, you dive in to help out, but to wade up to someone and actually ask..
"Did you just ask my mate for a fight?"
ROTFPMSL
Try that in Gloucester and you'd wake up in A&E
