I contacted Motul last year regarding what oil they recommend for my WRX03 after all if its good enough for the rally team its good enough for me.
Dear Sir,
Subaru basic recommendation is 5W-30 but you have the possibility to adjust to your own use, for normal, we recommend Motul 8100 Eco-nergie 5W-30, for hard driving or racing, we recommend Motul 300V Power 5W-40 or better Motul 300V Competition 15W-50.
Best regards

Buy the MOST expensive, elite oil that you can ............. price = quality ........ big bucks means less wear .... ignore what Subaru say, they don't know NOTHING!!
If its got a smart 'in vogue' name, even better!!!!!
They spend £Millions in research and tell you in the owners manual to use 10W-40 ....... but, it was all wasted ... that Oil is £15 for 5 Litres .. that just cannot be right!?
You MUST spend £30+ for 4 Litres for it to be any good whatsoever!!
