You may be right there Paul, but you do have a right to prompt trial and that should be sufficient grounds for a decent solicitor to nip this in the bud...

For once I agree with you Pete.
Love how the folks take a pop on a BBS. If they're that pissed off with the cops tell them to their face. But they won't.

It tends to be the scum of the earth, I wanna break the law and get away with it types that come up with this sort of comment.

(p.s. Have a PROPER think of the irony before you accuse me of stereotyping you)

The Liberal Democrats' new policy on law and order took Westminister by surprise! Perhaps ejecting the drunken Scottsman was not such a good idea afterall!

Cheers for that Pete! First of all , I will surely outrun any bullet in my Scoob! . . And its interesting how you live yr life anticipating a bullet to come your way! And when it does, may i be so bold to suggest that you put yr Scoob beween yrself and the bullet, given as yr such a leftie!

trust me, there is no way of telling an officer of the law that you dont agree with him. IN MY EXPERIENCE, of which im going to say will be more than most of you on here, you dissagree with them, they quote the public order act at you, you then either shut it, or you take your chances again and risk getting charged.

They will and DO use the law to convict people, they will and DO bend the rules to convict people. So any person using the loopholes in THE ROAD TRAFFIC ACT is fine with me.

if the guy says he wasnt doing 68 in a 40, then questions the calibration, whats wrong with that. if it was wrong, then it needs pointing out. Im sure anyone hear would do the same would you not. admitting you were speeding is one thing, admitting a speed you wernt doing is another.

last weekend, i got stopped on the A1(M). copper came to the window, said " you know i have stopped you cos your stupid dont you"

what a way to strike up a conversation eh. Anyway, sat waiting to turn off the garage forcourt i took a dink out of a soft drinks bottle. He seen me.

he also ckecked the car, said front tyres were on the legal limit, well there 2 weeks old, so nowhere near. He said i stood out like a "dog with 4 *****" would you believe. Young KID (24) in a white impreza with a private plate on
He said they needed to be seen to be making an example of them, ie me.

so yes, the drinking was silly so he gave me a fixed penalty inc a £30 fine. But he also place a siezure notice on my car so that the next time i get pulled for anything, they can take my car off me.

now tell me that is not an abuse of power, jealousy i reckon, yes, he can legaly issue me with that notice, but why, he never caught me speeding, or doing anything silly other than what i mentioned, and even that is a bit iffy, i wasnt actually moving. i must also note that i never gave them any cause to get annoyed with me. was late for the flight and i needed away asap.

so go ahead mate, get a good solicitor and get them on the technicality. He tore the ticket up as he knew he was then stuffed IMO, though im sure others will have there own oppinions on that one

They also get shot, stabbed, get spat on by junkies etc etc.
Is that ok then? You get jobsworths in every area of life these days.
How you deal with problems also affects the treatment you get. I overtook an unmarked cop car in a 40mph and went on my way at around 50mph(country road). Lights came on and I pulled over. I got out the car held my hands up to it and apologised. I was just told that if I was caught doing it again I'd get done.
My attitude was conciliatory and apologetic and I got away with it on this occasion. At that time I was driving a Scoob.
Wife's family have 3 in the Force and the rare times we meet up I'm horrified at some of the stories they tell. I would'nt want their job.

no one forced them into that job, they took it of there own free will.

And whilst i dont think anyone deserves to die, its a sad fact of life that people do have to die in order to do there job.

Ic the ARMY, RAF and the NAVY.

I belive i have just read that the UK has now lost 100 service men and women in the current far east conflict. How many of you knew that eh??? some copper dies, there is holy hell about it,all these service men and women die, i gets a small colum in the paper about it, some inocent guy gets killed on the street, people these days dont think twice about it.

Fact is, they are no different from you and i therefore shouild not get preferential treatment within or outside the law.

Back to my orrigional point, you cant tell a copper to his face that they are wrong.

They're not the ones complaining. It's the folk that are caught and then try to weasel out of it saying
I did'nt do it
The machine must be wrong
Have'nt you got anything better to do.
All cops are ********
etc etc.

Oh and I was in the forces so you don't need to tell me about that

well TBH mate, its not criminal law that he is breaking, and if he was doing considerably less than 68 in the 40, and the police are saying he ws by use of faulty equipment then false evidence is breaking the law, its a dog eat dog world, personly, i hope he manages to get off with it.

Good luck mate

I think -like most interactions- it's a judgement call and how you do it that counts. If you're dealing with someone who is being an abusive prat from the outset, then there is no point in responding in kind; they have handcuffs, they'll win! ....wait till late when you compose the letter of complaint to the superintendent.

If you get someone who seems reasonable -of which the vast majority are- then try a bit of courtesy and you may be surprised what can be acheived. It could mean the difference beteen a summons and just a telling off and an "on your way, sir"

It's hard to be nasty to someone who is being civil to you, much easier if you give them gip back.

I was courteous, honestly believe i was doing 40 and didn't ask him anything until he stated he was going to give me a fixed penalty and started reading me the "you do not have to say anything" etc etc.... If he HAD carried out the relevant calibration checks WHY did he get all uppity? I've been a cocky bellend in the past and learnt it didn't work... I really wasn't on this occasion.

PS. checked with my local station where i produced and they have given me a receipt to show i produced, so that's sorted at least.

So many holier-than-thou people on here... even more than i remembered...

thanks to all those who've arged my corner or given constructive advice

Ok, well, lets take the issue as it stands ................ the coppas machine says you were doing 68 in a 40.

He offers you a fixed penalty ticket, you ask for the calibration certificate, he sees you as a trouble maker and a big mouth - so he books you a court appointment.

If you thought you were doing 40 when you were actually doing 68 then, my lord, I suggest that the defendant speeds all the time!!

I guess you will act differently next time you are stopped and offered a cheap way out?

Get your chequebook out, get your licence ready for 5 points and guess at the costs.

Pete

This thread needs locking.

Certain members sending threats to myself at least by PM is getting slightly out of hand.

Owain, long time no speak mate!

It's changed a lot since those early (oh one of the fancy coloured hair) 'Ring trip day's...you'll find that the style of 'those days' is still embraced over on 22b

Can I suggest having a shufti at: http://www.pepipoo.com and http://www.freemankeepondriving.com

Well put m8. I know me and pete have had some good slanging matches especially if i have hit the pop somewhat. But there is definately no reason for offensive PM's. so lets all chill and use the forum for what it is designed for.

Hope you get it sorted.

In case you took my post the wrong way mate; I wasn't implying that you were rude. There are -no doubt- bad police out there and I'll take your word for it that you have a genuine issue with the policeman's opinion of your speed and registered your enquiry politely. My point was a general one, that a lot of people on here (some of who have posted on this thread) display very inflexible negative attitudes towards the police and if you project that to them from the outset should you get pulled over, then the outcome is likely to be worse than had you been reasonable and polite. If you look for trouble, you'll most likely find it. I'll take your word for it that you just got one of the bad apples and wish you luck at court.

As for the individual who's allegedly been sending threatening PMs.

If you've got something to say, say it publically, unless you lack the courage of your convictions.

you cant be serious you wouldnt give cops here a gun they would shoot u in the back. cops are a bunch of cowards that hide behind a big group. i stand by my original statement that they are the lowest of the low. how can u say it to they face so u end up in the jail for the night. if ur car gets broken into there no where to be seen for hours but u go along road at 35 in a 30 and there all over you, and thats what u pay tax for then

1. They are doing a job .... sometimes they are traffic cops - so, they try to stop you killing someone because you wish to speed.

2. Then you get the cops, who are not traffic cops, and they check your car thats been broken into.

What we must NOT lose sight of is this:-

10 people die on our roads each day, thats 10 families destroyed, thats children without their mum or their dad - or both. Thats parents who have to bury their child, thats a child that will never know the lifetime that we have enjoyed.

I would rather they stopped idiots on the road speeding and driving like *****, "because they think they have the right to" than go round someones house because a stereo has been nicked from someones car!

If you want more coppas, then pay more tax .......... but, then, you will moan AGAIN!

Nah, the coppas are not perfect, there are good and bad .... but, they are the ones getting spat at, sworn at and vomitted over on a Friday night - and when some clever know-it-all asks for calibration certificates and stuff ..... well, they will allow you to question them in court (which is only fair!?).

So, stop moaning and back our boys in blue!

Well you've obviously got issues with the cops. I don't. So we'll just have to disagree.
