Generally not a fan of the police, however, when I had my accident and large compo claim, I don't think I would have won if the police had not been on my side.

they ain't all bad.

People who hate the police are the criminal scum. Normal people don't think like this. As before, think before replying.

You're completely missing the point of my post. It's about stereotypes and the irony of those using the stereotypes. I'm just applying the stereotype back to make the point.

Of course I'm aware that innocent people, on rare occasions, get convicted by the courts (note the police don't convict anyone) but that doesn't make them all wank3rs, that's just pathetic and stupid.

that was not a stereotype, that was a statement., you didnt say most, you said people.

so dont be supprised to be getting peoples backs up with that point.

it was mentioned before about the police taking a bullet, how many inocent people have been wrongly shot dead???

Im sorry but i truely believe, to be able to catch a criminal, you have to be able to think like one (to be good at your job), so where does the line get drawn between the criminal and the officer???

You're still missing my point.

My post was in response to the above statement. He said they are 'ALL' wank3ers. I was merely making the point about using those stereotypes. In other words, it would be hypocritical for someone saying what 95blackWRX said, to complain about people using stereotypes against him. People in glass houses etc.

personly mate, i dont agree with his choice of words, nor would i have ever come out and made a statement like that on the bbs.

BUT, i can see his line of thought there. So i think here i am getting the point, it is you who is missing my point. I am not a criminal, nor am i scum as you so politely put it.

so your statement was well out of order IMO

You're STILL missing my point.

Let me try and explain it even clearer.

I was NOT saying that people calling the poilce wank3rs are scum. I was making the point that people making the INCORRECT assumption that ALL police are wank3rs. To MAKE THIS POINT, I merely stated the SAME TYPE OF ASSUMPTION (for illustrative purposes if you like, devils advocate, explaining the irony of his comment etc. Do I really need to explain this further?).

Let me put it ANOTHER way, maybe it'll get through - Do you think ALL police are wank3rs? If the answer is No, then the statement I made above CLEARLY doesn't apply to you. The chap above DID say that he thought they were ALL wank3rs.

So let me get this right.....

You get caught doing 68 in a 40 limit. (i assume that you arent questioning this).

Normally that = Ban + fine.

You get offered the choice to take the points on the chin (£60 and no court date).. but instead you gob off to the copper (who was doing you a favour by giving you JUST a ticket - probably a scooby fan).... and **** him off to the point where he rips up the ticket and decides to send you to court instead.

WTF are you moaning about?

Tuff luck m8. I just hope the next scooby he pulls doesnt get bad treatment cause you were a ********......

Dude. . . I said it before, and just for you I will say it again so please listen close . .

The question is not whether the speeding guy is big or clever, but are the plod's actions questionable, and did he really have a basis for getting shirty and tearing up a LEGAL DOCUMENT, just bacause he maybe did not like the guy, or maybe disliked the colour of the guys shirt . . .

THe plod left the issue open ended, ( I suspect because he's not intelligent/articulate) .

There you have it! And could you please stop taking the moral high ground bacause the guy was speeding! Its really lame . . .

Owbow - good luck mate.

Dec05 I was caught at 85 in a 40. Country A road at 10.30 at night, clear well lit straight road that used to be un-restricted.

Maybe I was doing the speed but it didnt feel it at the time of the overtake.

I asked all the same questions and the officer was very good, and helpful, suggesting I would get a ban.

I went to court last week and got 6 points and a £270 fine, best result ever really. No lectures from the magistrates, they were very nice !

Do what you can to get out of it Owbow, I did hence no ban and a small fine.

Oh and it wasnt in a Scooby, something far more exclusive...

Quite a few interesting responses on here. Firstly I don’t agree that because police get vomited on, abused, spat etc, that they have any right to abuse their power. The officer in question is clearly a traffic officer who, in carrying out his normal duties should not be subjected to this kind of abuse. In the course of him carrying out his job correctly he must ensure that the equipment he uses is correctly calibrated, otherwise, he can not do his job properly. The guy asked him a very valid question, because, in his opinion, he didn’t feel he was speeding (some people should actually read the guys post before jumping down his throat). Why then should the officer change his view on what the punishment should be? Is this not an abuse of power?

for a start, that speed will not normaly see you with a ban, its has to go before a magistraite for that sentance to be given. and secondly, due to the fact that the officer first off presented a fixed penalty ticket, clearly it was up to his or hers discretion as to how far this issue goes.

He was well within his rights to question the accuracy of the device. Afterall, if the police did the calibration all of the time and there were not so many conviction with unreliable equipment, why would any of us feel the need to question it??? answer that one.....

IMO, any officer found PERVERTING the course of justice should be strung up. This is the reason why the fource has such a bad name in the frst place. Upholding the law is one thing, bending it to get a conviction is quite another

Lots of extreme views on this thread - bttt my thoughts on the original post is that the enquiry regarding the equipment calibration was not handled as professionally as it could have been by the officer in question, assuming the enquiry was made politely. However, when presented with the opportunity to accept a fixed penalty & fine personally I would have taken that option, as that way once the fine has been paid & licence endorsed the issue is closed.

On the broader subject of the police in general, I have been 'caught' speeding twice by traffic police, and on both occasions they have initially been slightly defensive, but after listening to the offence as they saw it and admitting responsibility their attitude changed, and they were in both cases very helpful. I believe in the second case they also decided on a fixed penalty, where things could have been worse had I made things difficult. Oh and in the first instance, its kinda hard to argue with the police about what you did / didn't do while they show you their latest 'spot the ****' video clip on their in car display fair cop I said, and vowed to behave in future - general rule is listen, don't waste their time and they won't get pissed off with you imho

No, the real question is why bother arguing the toss over the amount you were speeding when you've been offered 3 pts & £60??? ...because from Owbows post you cant tell whether he actually thinks he was or he wasnt

update: he was using a 'Speed Ace' which is a non-video type Laser gun.

I'M PRETTY SURE I WASN'T SPEEDING (to make it clear to those of you who think i should have jumped at the three points option)

oh and i wasn't cocky, abusive, mouthy ......or driving a Scoob... either!

something else has come up in his signed statement that may be interesting, don't want to say too much now, see what the solicitor thinks first.

Owain they'll have to prise my licence from my cold grey hands

hope all goes well for you mate.

and if the guy says hes pretty sure he wasnt speeding, its a far cry from doing 68 dont you think.

As he came on, we only have to assume he is telling the truth, so i hope this is sorted soon so the he can give all those bad luck wishers a big MIDDLE FINGER.

luck from me as well mate.
I'm not a nutter (10 years ago yes!) now mature.
But still i drive indulgently.

Anyone who says they drive like the local priest, forget it.
Why do you buy a scoob?
ALL my transport over the years has been f***ing quick.
Scoob is probably the nicest so far, bar the the 2 wheels.

Once did Advanced M/Cycle training.
One thing that put me off was the STRICT Adherence to the speed limits.
Concepts, ideas very good but lacking in real on the world stuff.
Eg:
Joined a M/Way on my F/blade, with instructor behind me.
No breach of speed limits.
Coach in the inside lane so I accelreated hard and was later told that i was speeding (80 in fact).
this is the real world and had i joined without accelaration i would have been in the side of the coach (but that is better than speeding? )

Advanced Motoring says DO NOT infinge the speed limits.

I drove HGV1 for 10 years and nothing pissed me off more than the arsehole joining the motroway who would not speed up or slow down on the sliproad.
Pissed me off bigtime. Either go or
stay!

Don't sit there matching my speed and expect me to get out of your f****ng way!
