As I said, this is the third time this has happened to me. I was lucky the first time as I witnessed it and the guy admitted it and I claimed from his insurance. A little ding wouldn't bother me, it's when it costs me big bucks to fix it that friggin annoys me
Any chance there may be CCTV

Stone chips on bonnet . . Sue the concil??? . .Errrrrrrrm . .No .Agreed though, the car is there to be driven and the odd scuffs and bumps are needless to be expected . . However, nothing wrong in exercising a bit of care and dilligence!

mart you seem to be missing the point. we are talking people actually smashing their car (at minimum door) into someone else's car. Quite different to picking up a stonechip, or causing damage to your own car you paid for at a trackday. dunno why you think people have the right to smash other people's cars in and not care.

Whilst I have every sympathy with those who acquire parking damage I can't say that I can condone this practice of parking over two bays. Its particularly annoying when you are trying to find spaces in multistorey car parks where this happens. Autoexpress magazine recently did an article on the size of parking bays and the reality is that many parking bays are not BIG enough for modern cars in some cases some council painted parking bays aren't big enough for Ford Focuses thus making it easy for people to be done for parking outside of the lines. Perhaps someone should start a campaign to have all parking bays made larger, either that, or can subaru make a smaller car hatchback preferred.

Tips:

Practice prevention: shop when its quiet
Park away from the entrance to the supermarket- most people are lazy and will park as close to the entrance as possible, be prepared to walk a bit -never hurt anyone- and you'll most likely have lots of spaces toy chose from.
Don't park next to old bangers- obvious, but true
Don't park selfishly, this draws attention to your car and is probably as likely to encourage people to register a protest in other ways than bashing your pride an joy (keying etc)
Avoid 4x4s and People carriers...oh and any vehicles with a baby seat. harsh, but fair!
Try and park net to something static, eg. wall Then at least only half of your car is exposed!!
If you can find somewhere under a CCTV camera all the better. If you return to find your vehicle damaged and no note, you can ask for a copy of the tape. If you say it's with a view to investigating pressing charges for criminal damage they have to at least reserve it for the police IIRC even if they won't give you a copy directly.

When i park in supermarket car parks i always park in the furthest corner where there's no other cars parked and don't mind walking the extra distance to the entrance if it means the cars not going to get dinged.
However, woe betide the idiot that parks next to me because if i get back to my car and this has happened i will wait for the offending idiot to come out of the supermarket and ask them the following question:
"Why when you've got the whole car park to choose from do you want to park next to me"?, and if i don't get a reasonable answer i will punch their lights right out even if it is Mike Tyson or any other mean looking steroid ridden numpty the same will apply.
So i very rarely frequent car parks in the Scoob, this way i stay out of jail and the car i've not yet finished paying for stays new looking for that bit longer.

I take the wifes cars or park miles away from the entrance. You can practice as much diligence as is humanly possible but your car is still good show ware and tear and the occasional non-malicious damage. Recently I have got scatches on the wifes car from kids removing snow to make a snow ball. Is fnucking annoying and very disheartening when you do all you can to keep stuff nice. But at the end of the day this is always going to happen and Im afraid you just have to come to terms with the fact that people just don't care, and not just about your car but very often theirs aswell.

I always park in a corner away from crowd and try to park exactly "on line" on to one side so as to prevent people from parking next to mine on that side.

I have picked two scratches/scrapes in six months at these stupid parks

It amazes me that I can park my car well away from all the others, so as to avoid the dented door situation.

I come back and you can almost gaurantee someone will have parked next to me, why?, I ain't got a clue!!

in a pay carpark, just park over 2 bays and pay double (get 2 tickets on display).

That way you have paid for BOTH spaces and technically can park there? (probably wrong in the eyes of the law still!).

Mind you i only suggest this as the council car parks where i live are 60p all day :P so its cheap!

The thing that pisses me off in these situations is most people don’t give a sh!te about other peoples property!

I picked up a nice dent when I had my old Scoob, I was just putting a few things back in the glove box after I came out of a shop and could see this beeatch get back in her pug 206 (parked next to me), then all of a sudden there was a bloody great THUD!!! I looked up and could she this dippy tart looking at me, she knew what she had done but she still decided to drive off!!!

I thought **** this, jumped out of my car and stopped her, had a nice 2-3" dent on me Scoob and her reply was “oh don’t worry mate that will polish out”!!!!! Had a few choice words with her and eventually got her details.

It's just people’s attitude, they think they can damage other peoples stuff and it doesn't matter!!!!

I now do my best to park as far away as possible from a stores entrance, and sometimes if there are plenty of other spaces left I might even park over the markings.

So you the one who makes opening a door to put a child in a car seat a f*kn impossibility!!!!

honestly your like a bunch of old women, fussing over a bad night out

for the record my scoobs been keyed down both sides,

thats life, it was done sometime before i bought it and reprayed,, i have dents in the doors, car parks, and

so what,,, i cant wrap the thing in cotton wool, and i cant watch it 24/7 so its normal wear and tear.

It amazes me the sometimes almost petty lengths you go to just to avoid a scrape or dent.

funny thing is the reason all this happens is down to the manufacturer.

door skins have been reduced in thickness to save weight, paint is now thinner due to more efficient application methods, the downside is that you only have to rub or flex a panel for it to come off.

mind you, with all the lowerd suspension and increased vibration from those bhp monsters, is it any wonder the car is suffering

its called the flocking syndrome (honest)

its to do with saftey in numbers, people see a car in the carpark and figure if they park next to it and a ****** comes a shopping, chances are they wont do your car.

i had a bumper ripped off by somone doing this, unfortunatly for them i found them that afternoon (the big white scrape down the side of the car was a dead giveaway )

it was such a shame, a batterd old Triumph herald, Vs a car full of girls,

she was so nice to me for the rest of the holiday

Fair play. Why should the bubble-***** and spackers get the free parking spaces?
