it starts as a quick prank, and then another , and then its get your own back, and as we are seeing its escalating, moved away from office japes, and now into throwing insults and digs at peoples employment status.

bottom line is you go to work to work, if you want to f*ck about then do it,

when you get canned, it kinda makes you think was it worth it?

Yet for someone who was lecturing us about professionalism and not playing jokes you've been throwing your own insults about quite a bit. Double standards you be the judge.

Besides I spen in excess of 9 hours a day, 5 days a week at work and I'm not gonna be miserable and unsocial for all that time as life is bad enough as it is. You might as well make the most of a bad situation.

Mmm Im so enjoying this thread. :-)

Im totally bored, as Im waiting for Sun to call me back to confirm whether a F25K, using Sun Cluster 3.1, using DS830 storage will work with MPX-IO DMP software ?? Its for a clients DR solution and they have gone out and brought £4M worth of storage despite not being sure it will be support on a Sun platform.

So, this thread is a tremendous bit of fun for me at the moment.

You tend to find that even management recognises that laughter actually benefits us little humans

FFS Why bother with some of the humourless ***** on here

I think the office pranks are great... especially when the humourless, spineless
person gets up and tw@ts one of the perpetrators of the pranks...an knocks a couple teeth out.

now thats true office entertainment

Enlighten me?

where have i hurled insults?

double standards?

if you read the relevant post, the comment was,

"one is unemployed, the other unemployable"

i asked the poster some questions to justify there statement, again hardly double standards.

and as for professionalism, you seem to have missed one vital pont..

I,m not at work

so i can do exactly as i want.

The double standards relates to you claiming to be professional yet still using insults and petty claims and boasts to belittle others and put your arguement across. Difficult to understand I know.

office pranks may be fun whilst you are the perpetrator
but less fun when you are on the other side of the fence

A bit of a nail on the head there..
Thats just it Shaolin... what is considered a prank or not
...is usually in the eyes of the perpetrator/s

The receiver of them may or not, view them in same light....and if he/she doesnt then becomes accused of being a boring/humourless/nerd/loser etc etc
by the oh so BIG in-crowd

If the person on receiving end is just having a compliment returned then fair do's....

Foot tapper- common sense really, damage is not banter, everyone needs a laugh and as long as its not always on the same person, there is no harm.

There's a really good book about the Red Arrows and how they work together as a team - at one stage they asked them to use 3 words to describe their relationship and what made the team work so well together. When they put all the results together, the most popular word used by all of them was fun.

People that have to work all day together need to be able to have a little fun from time to time - but that doesn't mean bullying. Pranks vary from place to place - I've worked in Logistics and the pranks/ fun there are very different to the pranks/ fun in the solicitors where I now work. Fun and messing around is fine within reason - and where that line's drawn varies from place to place.

Some people want to work in an office with zero fun and pranks - that's fine - but I'd really rather not. It really wouldn't do if we were all the same.

Once again undone by your own words. I haven't tried to lark on about professionalism if anything I have taken the side of the pranksters, yet you continue to try to lecture people and show obivous double standards while being ignorant of criticisms aimed at you.

Just keep posting I'd love to see how deep you can dig.

Just returned from a pub lunch, after buring the top of my mouth, most painful.

Lets call time on this discussion. I think we are agree, bullying, nastiness and general vendictive behaviour isnt consider pranks. Pranks to me and others is gentle leg pulling banter, that is returned by both parties. Scratch cars, harassment cases and other things of that nature are not one. If honest, when you arrive at an office, its soon obvious who is up for chatting / general fun, and who isnt, and I tend to bascially adjust my behavior to each situation.

If you believe in the work is work thoery, then fine, if you feel, like me, that work should be fun, then fine.

As to the guys who are working, not working, self employed or employed, fair play.

At the end of the day, there are far more important things, like fact that the roof of my mouth hurts, and I need the fresh, cold delights of a Pepsi Max lemon / Lime. Im off to the drinks machine.

I don't think reasonable people would call damaging peoples cars a prank.

Not sure I see the comparison between stealing a mouse ball or unplugging a keyboard and criminal damage. What you experienced was harassment.

Regarding sexuality there is an ongoing joke around my work as ai got chatted up by a gay guy. I laugh at it and becuase of that people don't go on about it. If your able to play jokes and take them people will respect you. - that's really aimed at the rest of the thread not you Exscooby as you were right not to put up with all that.

Some of you (presuming you don't already...which I really doubt) seriously need a couple of months labouring on a building site. Then you'd stop your pathetic moaning about how you've had office pranks played on you etc

I spent 9 hours moving a huge pile of broken bricks from one pile to another new pile about 20ft away. The minute I finished, the gaffer told me that I could move them back the next day as he'd made a mistake

I then had a football scarf that I left in the van, used as toilet roll. Lovely, I assure you ! I had my newspaper pissed on and my flask of tea pissed in too

The good bit is getting your revenge If you don't then people will walk over you for the rest of your life... FACT

It's part of dealing with life......

Sad to see us all living in such a nanny state.

A recent thing I had to deal with at work (now office based) was someone complaining that they had to stretch slightly to reach something on a shelf and was it a health and safety issue

and when will it finally sink in,

IM NOT AT WORK

i dont have to worry about what i,m doing or what i,m looking at.

If i was at work i wouldnt be posting on SN or playing silly pranks,

I,d be with a customer closing out concerns or resolving issues lineside.

or on a plane travelling out to see a customer.

Imagine how you would feel, if you were chasing an important contract, your prospective customer came in, and you walked into an office to find someone without a desk, the very same person you needed to present a project to the customer? , nother on the floor because his chair had been let down, etc.

what would your customer think??

how would you then win them round??

i,ll leave it up to you.

if you want to play pranks thats your call,

dont expect everyone to join in

I usually fairly quickly say right back to work. Nobody has done the sellotaping the coat one yet though, I'll suggest it next time i'm in the office

I don't find the odd joke damages productivity, if the job wasn't getting done then it would definitely be stopped.

Default Paid to work...

I think some people here are confusing office humour with the sort of pranks you play on your mates. Where i work, if you had the time to do all this "humourous japery" it would soon be said that you obviously haven't got enough work to do. As people have said, you're paid to work, not prat around like you're at school.

"removing someone desk" Jesus.

Here's one that's not too bad...

"borrow" someones mobile phone (we only target those with company phones), and if you have tiles on the ceiling, push one up and place the phone on the ledge.

When that person is back ring it a couple of times and you'll see how long it actually takes for them to figure out where the phone is...if at all

Generally though, it can get very tiresome listening or seeing the same crap given out by colleagues. One guy I work with thinks he's the man and can be sarcastic and is just too much to deal with sometimes. He is the type of guy who I think - if he's like this outside of work, I'm surprised someone has'nt tw****ed him.....lo and behold he went to Leeds one weekend and got a kicking ending up in hospital with nasty injuries, after apparently doing nothing

My opinion is....they obviously did'nt hit him hard enough to knock some sense into him

but I guess some never learn

swapping some keyboard keys around is a good one
