Once on a youth club trip when I was about 12, our minibus passed out a Ferrari on the A50 near Stoke. Thought it was the bollox at the time, not sure if he was trying though. Probably he would have done us on a track.

Only the most chavtastic chav mobiles are likely to try it on! Corsa's Saxo's , Punto's , Nova's and the like . . . . .Once some ape in a Smart Brabus tried it . . . .

Mate . .They are all a waste of time . .THough racing more formidiable opposition can be fun . .ie Civic Type R . . .

THough generally speaking, it will mostly be tranquil motoring with myself antagonising most motorists in my Scoob!

Had an E36 M3 before the Impreza and TBH it is more of a crusier than a performance car. It was quick....but not that quick. It wouldn't really get close to the STI type R. I always felt the M3 was a bit of a disappointment just not enough performance. Enjoyed it while I had it but the Impreza is a notch above in terms of handling, performance, braking etc. M3 had a much nicer interior though. Fuel economy was only marginally better than the type R and insurance was much more.

What's the problem, if you want to race other cars you get plenty of chance, if you don't you get plenty of chance to laugh at the idiots who think they can beat you.

Quit worrying about image people, loads of cars have images, MX5 hairdressers, BMW t*ssers etc.

Just drive the car that you want to. It's pretty sad to sell a car because of what you perceive other people think about you.

I have had many WRX's/STi's have a go in my fettled Cupra R, so far nothing has got past, but I do know not to bother from a stand still, as traction is a slight issue

Well said mate. Just ignore the **** stirrers on here who claim the WRX is slow. It may well feel slow after stepping out of their supercars but to the majority of other motorists its plenty fast enough. Mine still puts a smile on my face so im sure you will still be loving it for ages to come.

The Type R Leon I came across, on dual carriageway with a succession of roundabouts, couldn't out perform my nearly standard 93 WRX at any point.

Sure the Leon R was fast and worthy, but the reason he counldn't out perform my 'slow' WRX, is because they weigh 1400+ kgs with 225hp. The 93 WRX has 1235 kgs with 235hp, so despite the 4wd loss over 2wd, the early WRX is a lot lighter, not to mention the gearing is probably shorter too.

Anyway, this Leon type R was desperately trying so hard to beat me that eventually he did, when I slowed for a car in the way on the right hand lane, he undertook in the left hand lane. I was worried that the car in front of me may pull over as he noticed me in his mirror so I backed off. Too late, the car in front of me started pulling in to the left lane just as the Leon was undertaking, and it was rather close. Both cars swerved to avoid each other, I thought the Leon driver was a plonker for this, but it was my fault too for rising to the bait in the 1st place.

No need to race Type R Leon's anymore anyway as I already know they can't improve on the performance of the 93 WRX!

UK spec Impreza's are of course less powerful, and later cars (95 onwards?) are heavier too, so the Leon type R could well have the upper hand over them, just stay away from the early jdm classics!

I've currently got a Leon Cupra R with AMD OneClick remap (just about to change to an STI). I can tell you a remapped LCR is pretty formidable once moving (terrible off the line).

Ok mate, you 93 car has less weight, but the new ones have more power and torque (to overcome the extra weight). So both cars are very good, old and new.

I wouldn't worrry high powered FWD hot hatches :

I would never race on the public roads, and you generally find it's under powered cars drive dangerously to give the impression they have a fast car (with their fog lights on), and either eventually crash or get caught by the cops and banned for wreckless driving.

Only 18 year olds (with fog lights on) with no sense undertake these futile antics.
Look read the magazines please: a Cupra R does 0-60 in 7 secs not 5.5, a Golf GTi/Focus ST225 6.7-6.9. If you take risks you may think you look faster but all you're heading towards is a 1 driving year ban.

To find out who's the fastest book a track day, never heard of a FWD car producing better lap times than a Scooby.

Yes, I have owned a Cupra R 225, which was REVOed then unREVOed.

Some good points and some not so good points here ( ie the guy from the ghetto oops I mean the shops...)

All I'm going to say is I drive my scoob about 1000 miles a week and every morning I can't wait to get up and get back in it. There are more smiles per mile than any other car I'v ever been in or driven. Times when the mondeo tries to undertake you on the A50 roundabouts just make the car so much more appealing, especially if its a 'stealth' scoob instead of an in your face WR blue STi (no disrespect they do look the b0ll0x).

Just my tuppence worth.
